In the Soul Society, deep in the private lab of the Captain of Squad 12, Mayuri Kurotsuchi, was working on his latest experiment. The experiment was a machine that, if his theory was correct, could in effect, transplant the spiritual pressure of one into the other, and vice versa, which in layman's terms could essentially result swapping said people's abilities, or maybe even more.
"...and that should do it." he said as he finished the fine tuning of the machine. "Nemu, get in here." he ordered, and his Lieutenant stepped into the lab.
"Yes?" she asked him.
"I need you assist me so that I can activate the machine so we can begin preparations for testing." he informed her.
"Yes sir."
"Now, press the buttons on the other side of the machine." She walked around to the other side as instructed, and he told her what to do and what to input as he did his own work from his console. Once done, he activated the machine, and its lights turned on as it started up.
Unfortunately, things would not go according to his calculations, and after a few momnets, it began to emit sparks, and suddenly parts of the machine exploded and pieces fell off. Mayuri sighed. "Such a shame. All that effort for naught." Mayuri said. "Oh well, back to the drawing board. Nemu! Clean up the mess!"
"Yes sir." she complied and began to pick up the pieces of.
"Now, lets see, what went wrong in the test?" he commented out loud as he read through his notes on his computer.
However, unknown to him, it the machine caused a strange distortion for an instant, sending a sort of "ripple" through the Soul Society, Karakura Town in the living world, and Hueco Mundo.

Meanwhile, in the world of the living, the first to experience the results of Mayuri's failed experiment was none other than Ichigo Kurosaki. Currently, it was morning, and he was still asleep in his bed. As he was lying there, his body was suddenly surrounded by a strange glowing aura, and in an instant, he was replaced by Orihime in his bed. Said girl continued to sleep soundly.

Elsewhere, in Orihime's home, Ichigo was just begining to awaken as an alarm clock went off next to the bed he now slept in. Reaching over to turn it off, he was half asleep, and still hadn't realized that he wasn't in his home yet. Absentmindedly walking over to the bathroom, he was glad that he hadn't had to deal with his father this morning.
As he entered the bathroom, he looked at himself in the mirror, and noticed that something was off. "That doesn't look like what I went to bed in..." he said, and then looked down. "WHAT THE HELL!?" he yelled out in shock. For some reason, instead of his usual pajamas, he was now wearing a girl's nightie. "How the hell did I get in this!?" It was then that for the first time that morning, he began to realize that he wasn't in his home. Stepping out of the bathroom, he looked around and recognized the place as Orihime's home. "What am I doing here?"
He then decides to look around the home to see if he could find Orihime and maybe how he got here. As he did, he then noticed something weird. As he passed by some of the pictures in Orihime's home, he had remembered seeing them when he had been here in the past. However, the pictures were not all as he remembered them. For example, there was a picture that had been of her and Tatsuki taken after school one day, where in it the two wore standing next to other. Now however, Orihime wasn't in the picture, but instead he was, and he was wearing her uniform! His expression and posture even matched how hers had been!
"What is going on?" he wondered to himself.
