The baggage compartment under the bus was getting rather full, so I had to struggle to put my bags in. "What's all that?" Lisa asked me. That ruined my mood immediately. I didn't know she was coming. Or Alicia and Carrie. They were standing on either side of her.
"What are you doing here?" I asked as I started shoving my bag again.
"We're chaperoning!" Carrie said enthusiastically.
"You look like you're having trouble with your bags," Alicia commented.
"I've got it," I insisted, trying to make space where none existed.
"Why do you have so many bags?" Lisa asked.
"That's a stupid question," I retorted. "We're going to be away from home for a week."
"I think," Alicia interjected as she started flipping through her clipboard, "that Lisa is referring to this." She held out the clipboard to me.
"Alicia, I already signed the permission slip when you came by two nights ago," I said as I turned to face them. My efforts had left me sweating and tired, but I had finally gotten my bags to fit.
"Permission slip?" Carrie asked.
"Yeah, the permission slip for the field trip," I reiterated as I started moving towards the door to the bus.
"That wasn't a permission slip to go on the field trip," Alicia said.
I stopped and made my way back towards them. "Yes it was," I insisted. "You said Mary sent you."
"She didn't," Alicia said. She offered me the clipboard again. I took it and started reading the page.
I was silent for a moment. Then I exploded. "The fuck are you telling me I have to be naked at the camp!" I demanded after I finished reading. It didn't even matter to me that my signature was on the form, I was so angry that they had tricked me.
Lisa shrugged her shoulders dismissively. "Hey, you signed it." I pulled the form free of the clipboard and tore it up into pieces.
"Just so you know," Alicia said, "that wasn't the original."
