Chapter #12

Axel the Green Anaconda

    by: Drakeon Author IconMail Icon
…Male Snake! It has to be with those murky scales and cold eyes. Yes, you're certain it's a male anaconda. Perfect! You have just the name for him! Axel. Axel the green anaconda. Has a nice ring to it. You sit on an upturned bucket (you were using it to renovate your spare bedroom into Axel's new home) and watch the titanic snake slither around his enclosure. He seems to be quite confused with the extra large space he has now compared to his old lizard tank he came in. He slithers away from the glass wall you are sitting behind (you installed it to replace the wooden one connecting to the Living Room) and explores his surroundings. If you didn't know any better, you'd say he was untrusting of you. He then turns his head to look next to you and spots a big bag with the words "Snake Kibble!" written on it.

You turn your head and follow Axel's eye-sight and spot the brown food bag. You had bought it (before actually checking what giant snakes eat) off a very shady and cheap website. The description was in broken English and talked about it being able to "Make You Snake Dreams Come to True!" whatever that meant. It was cheap, costing $7.00 and after spending so much in preparation for renovating a whole room for a giant snake, you needed cheap. Now you were stuck with a bag of something that smells like a family of skunks died in it and nowhere to put it.

"You don't want to eat that Axel, I think it might be illegal in all fifty states." You joke. The snake still eyes it up and down as if he could smell it from inside his enclosure. And it's not like you had any more money to go buy him a whole turkey. "Alright, I guess it can't hurt to at least put it in there with you. If you don't eat it, I'll ask my buddy Ben to pick up some rabbits off of his sister's farm for you until we can get you ordered some proper meals, okay?" Axel watches you pick up the bag and dump it on a big wooden sheet before sliding it through a compartment hidden in the kitchen. Instantly Axel attacks the pile of smelly, slightly green, soggy kibble. You had been kidding about that legal thing, but, it really does not look like something a snake, or any other living thing for that matter, should consume. With you feeling slightly guilty about not having any other food source for Axel to eat, you decide it's time to go to bed. Turning off all the lights not directly connected to Axel's enclosure, you curl up in your bed and sleep for the night.

------------------------------

Axel swallowed the last meaty cylinder of kibble. It smelled wonderful and he hadn't eaten since being handed off to that store clerk at the pet shop a week ago. He wasn't sure how to handle his new owner. They seemed to really care for him. A lot more than the store clerk at least. At least he had been fed this time instead of neglected in the back of a dark corner under a tarp. However, he was suspicious. He didn't trust this human one bit. They were just setting him up to get comfortable before sending him back to that place, he just knew it! He just wished he was released into the wild. That pet store was hell on Earth and he had hated every moment of it. But his new human was pretending to be nice and save him from his misery. If he were human like them, he would destroy them, he decided. He would eat each and every last human until only snakes survived and conquered.

Axel roamed to a corner of his enclosure and began to curl up in preparation for sleeping. He rested his giant head on his massive belly and listened to the gurgle it made as it digested it's contents. Axel began sleeping, thinking about himself as a human eating a smaller human. If he had lips, he would have smiled in glee, unaware of what the Kibble within his body was doing to him. As if somehow reading his thoughts, the kibble set to work making Axel's dream a reality. As Axel digested more of the kibble, His appearance began to shift and change to become slightly more human-like. His body was still covered in scales, but it began to thicken up, forming a human-like chest and arms in the top half of the snake's body. It left his tail alone, and instead went directly towards his throat and chest to form a voice box and more human-like organs; including upgrading his heart, lungs, and spine. His snakey bottom half was left more or less alone, with the exception of his stomach and digestive system. It was made longer and the acids more fast-acting and deadly. In his more human half, It too received a stomach. Though this stomach couldn't digest, it could mash up food if prompted, like a bird's gizzard.

More of Axel's body changed all throughout the night. His brain was made smarter, more intelligent. His reproductive system had been redone entirely. Axel's privates shifted higher between his human chest and snake tail. It also changed to be much longer and larger than normal. For both of them. His nervous system extended and was introduced to a new body with new organs. All the while, Axel slept through it. His eyes closed for the first time in his life, and he was dreaming about being human.
