Chapter #8

Take this slowly

There was no sense in rushing. Trying to find a quick fix to a problem as serious as this was just as likely to put you in a worse position. This city intrigued you. Staying with other centaur until you found a way back would surely be more comfortable than roaming the wild. Going on an adventure was something you had always wanted to do. You had to be careful how you asked the dryad for information. She did not like the place and if you let on to your intention to stay there, she would probably not want to help.

"What is your name spirit?"

"I am called Myra. How about you?"

"My name is Teren."

The dryad's expression became a mixture of surprise and disgust.

"Who named you? A human? No my dear your name is... Teiss! Yes, it is a wonderful name! It suits you perfectly."

You are annoyed at her dismissal of your name, but this new one is a bit more appropriate. You decide to accept it for now.

"Thank you for my new name! I love it. Would you like to talk for a while?"

"Certainly! What is on your mind?"

"I have never heard about this Equolt city before. It is surprising to me that centaur formed one considering they, I mean we, usually prefer not to settle."

Myra sighs.

"Yes, it is a continuing tragedy. So many have gone to the city to live in comfort that forests and plains everywhere cry out for aid. Not enough of you are willing stewards. I can not express how dangerous the situation is becoming."

"That is awful. Isn't there something we could do? Surely the people could be convinced to return to our traditions. At least some of them."

Myra's seems to perk up as you speak. Her eyes go wide and look up at you.

"Teiss! Are you saying you would be willing to preach the cause of the spirits?"

"Me? I don't know. That sounds like a big task. I'm not sure I'm up to it."

"Oh of course you are! You might need a little help though. With a bit of preparation, I sense you would be the perfect one to guide your people back to wild freedom."

"I guess I could try. But I haven't been to Equolt before. I don't even know the way."

"Sweet girl, you are too humble. I will guide you and offer my blessing. Yes, this is a big responsibility, but if you accept, I promise the effort alone will be worth it!"

"OK Myra. I will go to Equolt and try to renew my people's natural roots."

Myra giggled and bounced in place. Deceiving her felt like lying to a child. Surely you could at least speak with some of the people there about this issue. It was the least you could do for her aid. Myra turned and skipped toward her tree.

"Now come over here child, I want to bless you immediately!"

This was a bit of a surprise. A human blessing was usually just a wish for wellness. Apparently a spirit could offer something a bit more substantial. You followed over, eager to see what this boon would be. Myra was kneeling by the trunk, so you awkwardly got down as well, your body eventually flopping to the earth. Would she think nothing of the fact that you were clearly struggling with a task as simple as kneeling, yet she expected you to be her champion? Either way she said nothing, simply grasping your wrists and placing your palms on the surface of the tree. Beneath the bark was a warmth that was closer to living flesh than plant mater. The two of you stayed like this a while.

Myra's singing had begun once more. This time more rhythmic and primal, though just as beautiful. Her song filled your mind, relaxing you to a calm you had never felt before. Light was once again emanating from the tree. You basked in it as alternate waves of heat and cold sent shivers around your body. It all faded slowly until you were left in a deep sleep.

Your eyes fluttered open in the soft early morning light. A sense of refreshment and invigoration unlike anything you had ever known flowed from the top of your head to the tip of your tail. Leaping from the ground, you began to run around the tree as though it was something you had done your whole life. This outburst of joy and energy went on for several minutes. You had worked off some of this energy and came to a stop.

A bit of hair fell across your face and you are surprised to see it had changed again. Now a perfect silver, it shimmered in the light. You played with a bit in your fingers and giggled. What a strange response. You smoothed your hair back and did your best to calm down. You took deep breaths as you centered yourself. The heaving motion brought your attention to an even bigger change. Your bust was now straining against the previously loose cloth. Your breasts were larger than any girl you had seen. So large, they pushed against each other and off the sides of your chest. How had you not noticed them when you were running around?

Your thoughts are interrupted by a squeeze around your waist. Myra stood next to you giving you a hug and smiling brightly up at you.

"Oh I knew you would love your blessing. You are the very image of mother nature herself! The magic within you had to be exhausted, but now you are prepared for your quest!"

As you heard her speak, you began to get a angry. She had changed you even further from your true self. Before you lashed out though, you remembered you had lied about your intentions to her. What good would anger do now? besides she knew no better. So instead you returned her smile. When you spoke, your voice was smooth and feminine with an air of authority.

"Thank you Myra. I promise to use your blessing well. What of supplies though?"

"Not only will you find yourself full of an abundance of energy, but many of the plants and animals of this world will serve you on your journey. The bounty of nature will provide you with enough. I also promise you will be able to gain the attention of any centaur with ease. Convincing them though will be up to you."

"Well I suppose I ought to leave soon. Where is the city? How far will I need to go?"

"Hmmm. I can not say with certainty. I know you must go far to the west. It is past the icy mountains on the long plains. Once you get closer, you will need better guidance. For now, chase the sun as it rises and flee from it as it sets. Please return to me some day Teiss. I will offer what little aid I can from afar. It is me that ought to be thanking you."

You return her hug and assure her you mean to return. She was quite vague on what she could do for you at a distance, but you decide now is the time to head out before she takes your interest as another cue to change you further. After one last hug, Myra waves and returns to her tree.

So would you follow her general directions? Go west until you could find more information on Equolt. Perhaps now was the time to return to your village. At least long enough to get better supplies than the indeterminate 'bounties of nature.' If you went a bit slower, you could test exactly what this blessing entailed.
