Princess Celestia, Regent of the Sun, and co-ruler of Equestria, fairly collapsed into her bed that night. "Ugh, what a day," she moaned. It had been a few days since the wedding in Canterlot, and she had just finished dealing with all sorts of rubbish today. Mostly, it was fallout from the Changeling invasion of Canterlot. She'd put it off long enough, and it had all come crashing down on her today. Sometimes, being an immortal alicorn isn't all it's cracked up to be, she thought dully. I wish I'd gotten a chance to read the job description when King Oberon and Queen Titania stepped down!
Sighing, she curled up deeper into her bed. "Just relax, Celestia," she told herself. "Everything will be back to normal in the morning. You'll see." With a yawn, she closed her eyes and fell asleep.

Deep in slumber, the Princess of the Sun was unaware of a lithe black form slipping in through her window. It glared daggers at the sleeping alicorn.
"Princess Celestia," the Changeling Queen hissed. "By all rights, Equestria should have been mine. I was within a hairsbreadth of ruling this country entirely!" With visible effort, she calmed herself. "Yet, it was not you that proved to be my undoing. That was Shining Armor and Cadence. I can't get at them at the moment. So for now, I'll settle for you!"
The Changeling Queen's twisted horn glowed, and a container popped in out of nowhere. Opening it, she levitated out the contents, revealing them to be a sickly-green powder. Spreading it over the Princess, she laughed quietly. "For all the love your subjects give you, by the end of this week, they will betray you. You will feel what it's like to be run out of your rightful kingdom. And you will have no choice but to turn to me for help."
With that, Chrysalis, the Changeling Queen, slipped out of the window, and scurried off into the night, doing everything in her power to avoid detection.   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
