Nate got home and took off his shoes. He dropped his schoolbag by the stairs and went into the kitchen. His stomach was already trembling with emptiness. He took of the remnants yesterday’s lunch out of the fridge and heated it in the microwave. He put the steaming food on the dining table and he sat down to lunch. Nate glanced at the clock and he took more food for himself. Because he knew he wouldn't have a chance later.
When Nate was full, he went up to his room to write his homework. He leaned wearily on his desk when he finished. He headed back to the kitchen to drink a glass of water. As he went down the stairs, he saw two huge shoes next to the front door. He knew his brother had come home. He even saw him as he entered the kitchen. Chris was sitting at the table and just finished the lunch. There was nothing left of it. It was all gone in the belly of your adorable-faced little brother. But no matter how much he ate, he was still a skinny and thin child because he was already 7 feet tall.
For the past week, Chris has grown steadily. At least it seemed to Nate. Because not only Chris but the whole reality has changed. All he could do was accept wordlessly.
"Hey bro!" Chris greeted him.
"Hello." Nate said as he poured water into a glass.
Nate watched Christ and wondered when he would start nagging him to play with him. Chris was increasingly looking for his brother's attention. Nate didn't understand that.
Or when Chris's growth starts. Although Nate hoped every day there would be no more.
