Kendall was lost to them for the next few days, like Jo although this time they couldn't do much of anything about it because Kendall was bedridden and watching hockey would only remind him and cause him to burst into tears all over again. It was a heartwrenching sight and Logan, Carlos, and James tried on the first two days only to get shouted at and stuff thrown at them. Mrs. Knight and Katie did as well but Kendall even flipped out on them. So the next couple were terse as Kendall morosely sat in bed, staring at the ceiling or tormenting himself looking at all the hockey trophies and listening to sad music. Food was barely eaten and only picked at and much of it returned. One day however, it changed.
"Logan?" he heard a raspy voice call and it almost startled him. Logan rushed into the room where Kendall was. Kendall hadn't spoken to them in four days (except to cry or yell or blame them or berate himself and such) and Logan was nervous. Kendall was leaning up on the bed, his arms pushing him up. Dull green eyes looked at him.
"I want a smoothie." Kendall said. Logan blinked.
"What?" Logan asked, not quite sure if he was hearing things correctly.
"I want a smoothie," Kendall said. "A really big smoothie."
"Um...what type?" Kendall looked at him angrily for a moment before the passive expression came down over his face again. Logan wasn't sure which was worse, Kendall when he was throwing a tantrum or this unrecognizable Kendall who seemed out of it and uncaring. In the past, he would have said angry Kendall but now he wasn't quite so sure."
"You know what type," Kendall said and Logan did. Kendall always bought Jo and himself smoothies when they were dating, blue and pink. Most people thought that the pink smoothie was for Jo, being a girl and all and she seemed the type who would have liked pink smoothies. However, most people did not know that those were actually for Kendall and that the pink strawberry was his favorite flavor. On the other hand, Jo much preferred blue blueberry.
"Yeah, I guess I do," Logan said. He left the Palmwoods and walked the block down the road to the smoothie store and waited in what felt like an exceptionally long line. Actually, it wasn't but one chatty customer kept talking to the person at the counter for half an hour while people behind were angrily waiting to be served. Finally however, he got in line and a smoothie.
"Sorry about that," the guy at the counter said. "Here everyone have a two for one smoothie day." While people still weren't happy, they did take their free smoothies and Logan ended up with two extra-large pink smoothies. When he got back to the apartment, Kendall had a tray of cookies next to the bed and was munching on one. Kendall tilted his head at Logan questioningly.
"What took so long?" Logan shrugged.
"An annoying guy in the line spent a long time talking to the cashier and making everyone impatient. It was unbelievable. However in order to make it up, everyone was given a two for one deal so I ended up with two smoothies." Kendall smiled a bit and Logan almost wept for joy. It didn't last long but for one of the very few times Kendall had smiled since the accident, it was wonderful.
"Cool, now hand them over,"Kendall said. Logan carefully put them on the bedside table and sat next to Kendall on the bed as Kendall ate another cookie.
"Where did you get those?" Logan asked curious. They didn't have cookies as far as he knew.
"Carlos made them." Kendall said.
"Carlos?" Logan said confused.
"Yeah, apparently when not under immediate pressure he actually can bake amazing cookies." Logan hmmed. They could have been the worst cookies in the world but as long as Kendall was talking, who cared? Taking a bite out of one, Logan gasped at the burst of chocolately flavor. They were fantastic. 'Why didn't Carlos tell about his talent before?' Logan wondered. Kendall was eating yet another one.
"How many of those have you had so far?" Logan asked curious. Kendall stopped for a moment scrunching up his nose.
"Ah...um...er....I don't know. They are just so good and it isn't like I have much else to do right now," Kendall's voice cracked as the depression started coming back. "Not with a lame leg..." Logan cursed himself for asking and he thrust a smoothie into Kendall's hand who tilted his head back as he chugged about half before spluttering, one hand clutching his head in brain freeze, but at least smart enough to keep one hand from spilling the drink.
"You okay?" Logan asked. Kendall sat and thought for a moment.
"No," he said. "But I might be eventually." Kendall tipped the rest of the smoothie back and swallowed. He swished for a moment before reaching for the next one.
