“Pardon my intrusion into your festivities,” Narra called to the dancing and singing figures. Her hands instinctively went to her weapons but she resisted the urge to draw them as they turned to look at the interlopers. “I seek your aid in finding Princess Penelope.”
“You come in an interrupt our fun to make demands on us,” a glowing fairy fluttered up to her. Her bejeweled crown and dress woven of gold spoke to her importance.
“I am seeking to save someone in danger and I don’t come empty-handed. I am willing to bargain with you for the information you have on the princess if you have any.”
A mischevious smile formed on the fairy noble’s face as she turned to the others raising an eyebrow to draw the truth from the crowd. After a moment a few stepped forward but she motioned them to remain silent.
“It appears we have information to bargain with. I am Baroness Azalea. Who am I dealing with?” her eyes glowed an intense purple that was unsettling.
“I am Narra,” she didn’t give her full name because many were the fae who could use such information to insidious purposes. “Perhaps you would like me to roll out my trade goods?”
Her hopes of a quick deal were quickly dashed as Azalea shook her head to the negative.
“Our entertainment has been interrupted so it is only right you provide us some entertainment in return. We have many games you can participate in. All we ask is you join us for one.” The smile never reached the eyes of the baroness. There was a trap here.
“What sort of games are you talking about?” Narra narrowed her eyes.
“Only simple ones because we are simple people. Hide and go seek, a run to the edge of the woods, or an archery contest. I bet you would be really good at that one.”
“I don’t suppose you would let me in on the rules of your special games?”
“Where would the fun be in that? But I tell you what, if you win the game you play I will give you a surprise bonus gift.”
“Wonderful, I don’t suppose I can refuse to play any of the games?”
