Experimental brain transplant surgery saves the life of someone very close.

This choice: your girlfriend, Samantha Cole.  •  Go Back...
Chapter #5

your girlfriend, Samantha Cole.

    by: Unknown
Samantha!? What happened to her?" You ask.

The doctor takes off his glasses as he polishes them with the end of his jacket. "I'm sorry to say her body didn't make it. She was the first one hit by the truck. You on the other hand are very lucky, you only have some scratches and bruises."

"I don't care about that, I've just lost my girlfriend." You tell the doctor. You want him to leave you alone and let you mourn her. You could never forgive yourself for this. You were the one driving the car, if only you had taken another route you both would be alive and well. Now you are alone in a foreign country. You knew some people, but nobody to share your losses with.

"That's not quiet true, mister Eggers, not entirely."

"But you just said?"

"I told you her body didn't make it, her brain on the other hand was functioning perfectly when she made it here."

"So what? She doesn't have her body anymore."

"True, not hers though. Someone else's."

"Excuse me?" You ask the doctor confused.

"Mr. Eggers, I know what I'm about to say might sound strange, but it's the truth and only the truth." The doctor sits down next to your bed. "We have been experimenting with a special procedure, one which could save human lives."

You nod to the doctor let him continue.

"In short layman's terms we have transplanted Ms. Cole's brain into a donor body."

"Are you serious?" You laugh nervously. "That sounds more like science-fiction to me."

"It isn't, it's quite the opposite. We have finished the operation a few minutes ago, the vital signs are good, Ms. Cole is stabilizing now."

You couldn't believe it, you think you must be dreaming. Your girlfriend is still alive, alive!

"Can I see her now?" You ask eagerly trying to sit up straight in your bed.

"Certainly, however there are certain things you need to know."

"What then?" You ask quickly as you want to go to her.

"First of all, nobody is to know a thing about the procedure. There are only a few selected people who know about this, and you are one of them."

"B-but." You stammer.

"Secondly that means Ms. Cole will have to take over the donor's body life. She will be forced to act like them in front of family, friends and outsiders."

"That's not fair, you mean to say she is forced to stay in Europe?"

The doctor nods. "Damn it." You say punching the bed. Just as you thought your girlfriend was save and you both could go home, destiny has put a halt to that.

"I want to see her now." You tell the doctor. He nods as he calls a nurse to bring a wheelchair for you. You wave it off but as you move out of bed your legs feel wobbly and you fall on the ground. The doctor helps you up and puts you in the wheelchair. The nurse then takes you to your girlfriend's room.

Question is how has your girlfriend changed?
