“Yes, I’ll do it!” you say. Your mind flashes to the James Bond movies you watched growing up, how you always imagined secret agents would act, and while you know that you won’t be saving the world everyday like he was, being the top agent of a new organization is how legends are made. This is an idea too good to pass up.

As you exit the office, and get into Johnathan’s car, he passes you a blindfold.
“This for your protection as much as mine.” he tells you, and you wrap it over your eyes without question.

You spend the next hour driving out of the city past some farms, and then you feel a thud as the car clearly drives off of the road for another half-hour. Eventually, you feel the wheels are on smooth ground again, and know that the journey is nearly complete.

Your boss takes the blindfold off. “Get out of the car,” he orders.

You walk from an underground parking spot to an elevator, which takes you down deep below the ground. Your boss wasn’t kidding when he told you this place was top secret. This place is secure.

Eventually, you go through a few cement tunnels until you reach a room that looks larger and more important than the rest.

“Remember Kevin, if you mention a word of what you see to anyone without authorization, you will end up dead!” he warns.
“Understood.” you say.

As the door opens, you see a circular room with computers placed on every wall.

“Dr. Heller!” your boss yells.
“Mr. Alexander,” a middle-aged man responds.
“This is Kevin Sharp, he’ll be are lead field agent.”
“Wonderful! Wonderful! Yes, I can see it in his eyes, the determination. The facial structure. Quite nice. Very good!” he says as he shakes your hand.

John turns to you, ignoring the scientist before you.
“Dr. Heller is probably the brightest mind on the planet, at least when it comes to bio-architecture.”
“Bio-architecture?”
“Think of it as the next step to plastic surgery. I can instantly alter your size, shape, sex, skin colour, ethnicity, age, and pretty much anything else that you can imagine. And the best part is that it is all 100% reversible.”

“Incredible.” you say.

“Yes, and if you just strip naked and lie down in the table, we can take the scans of you now.”
You look at your boss, who nods to you, and feel embarrassed as you undress before the two men.

Lying on the table, Dr. Keller takes a swab of your mouth with a Q-tip. You are also stuck with a needle, as a blood sample is taken. You are asked to put on a pair of contact lenses, as a giant machine over the table begins to buzz and lasers measure every inch of your body.

After 15 awkward minutes, the machine shuts down, and both Dr. Keller and your boss tell you to get up and get dressed.

“Are you allowed to tell me what that was all about?” you ask.
“That was to make sure that we have the absolute specs for when you finish your assignment. As long as we have this information, no matter what, you can return to normal.

Dr. Keller pulls a data-stick out of the terminal and gives it to you. “This is a 50 terabyte hard drive, complete with mental scans, complete DNA mapping, health recordings and mental patterns, as well as a 3D model of your body, complete with scans of your organs. Of course this information is all on the hard drive too, but is the unthinkable should happen, this is how you return to normal.”

“I’ll take that,” Johnathan says, as he grabs the stick before you can touch it. He slips it into his coat pocket. Both you and Dr. Keller give him a nasty glance as how rude his actions are, but neither of you risks doing it for too long.

“That will be all for today Dr. Keller,” he says.
“I’ll see you both really soon.” Keller replies.

As you exit the room, your boss takes you to a little office just around the corner, and closes the door behind you.

“You should know that Dr. Keller isn’t officially a criminal.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“I mean he has never officially been charged with a crime. His machine works, but he was experimenting on people who didn’t understand what they were doing.”
“So everything he said about bio…bio-architecture was true?”
“Yes. But I am going to leave you some files that you can go over yourself.”
“Why do I feel this will be like reading an encyclopedia from back to front?” you ask.
“Because you’re smart enough to know that we need you to understand everything about what is going on here. If you don’t than technically your assignments for us will be criminal.”

Johnathan then takes out two large files, and plops them on the desk.
“The file on the left is about Keller, the file on the right is about your first assignment,” he explains.
“When do you need these read?” you ask.
“By tomorrow morning. I’ll be back for you then. Get comfortable, and that closet behind you is actually a miniature bedroom. There is a cafeteria down here somewhere, and of course all the food is free. You and Keller are the only people on this level, but there are even more scientists further down.”

With that, your boss gets up and leaves, as you turn on a lamp and stare at the two huge files on your desk. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
