The dictaphone

"Now we should totally change ourselves!" Eden said, clapping her hands "I wanna be a millionaire! No, wait, a billionaire! A trillionaire? And maybe the school queen too! Or the President!"

Amber took a step back.

"Calm down, Eden, I don't think we should consider this as a toy. It's dangerous, and look what happened to Vanessa once power went to he head?"
"Come on!" pouted Eden "I'm not Vanessa! And we took this device from Vanessa and have it now, we can't just let this occasion pass!"
"Correction" Amber said with a serious tone "I stole it, and I risked it all. Vanessa could have killed me in the process. So I'm sharing now and..."
"Then share share share!" chirped Eden "Please, hold the record button again, I wanna be tall! And beautiful! And rich! And mmm have some super famous actor as my boyfriend! Come on Amber, hold the record button, please!"

Amber was now worried. Eden was barely controlling herself, and wasn't listening to her. She just wanted to use this amazing power for her benefit, and she wanted it now.

"Eden, this power... this device... it made Vanessa go power crazy... and now you're acting like a spoiler child! It's corrupting people!"
"What? Not at all!" whined Eden "We just can't drop this device and walk on! Let me change my life now, it's not going power-crazy, it's just making things better! You're my friend, just do it!"

Amber made a step back.

"Eden... I can't let this device decide of our friendship."
"Amber!" shouted Eden.
"Listen... if this thing corrupt us, if it goes between us, I prefer..."
"DON'T THROW IT, AMBER!"

Amber hesitated, then looked at Eden deep in the eyes.

"Okay Eden. I'll keep it but for now then, but I need time to make sure this won't corrupt us."
"How?" asked Eden, a bit reassured as Amber was telling her she wouldn't give up on this power.
"I'll make sure you're not tempted for now, and we'll speak again about all this later. Trust me, I'll be really cautious about it."

Eden opened her mouth, but before she could answer, Amber was pushing the record button and said :

"I'm the only one knowing about the dictaphone right now. Everyone else just forgets about it, including my friend Eden."

She saw the shock and fear in Eden's eyes as she stopped the record, and then, it turned into confusion, as Eden blinked several times.

"What... what was I saying?" she asked, lost.
"We were just speaking about how the day had been long and we needed to rest." said Amber with a sad smile.
"Ah, right! I feel indeed tired... so tired I was lost for a moment here! You're right, let's go home Amber, and see you tomorrow!"

Eden hugged her friend, and happily went home.

Amber looked at her walking away, then gazed at the dictaphone. "I'm sorry to have done this... but this device seems dangerous. I can't just let a new Vanessa-Madness happen."
