High school students find a dictaphone able to change reality

This choice: "A movie about wishes!"  •  Go Back...
Chapter #29

Wishing smart...

    by: Wokod Author IconMail Icon
"A movie about wishes, Wish Upon, or somethingI can't remember the title right now, I'll tell you later." Teri said "But you're in."
"Yes, I'm in!"

Somewhere, in an office, watching at his phone, Greg smiled "I'm in too..."

That night, the two girls were sitting against Teri's bed, both in their pajamas, a few empty snack bags next to them, and a bottle of soda with still some in it. Facing them, on Teri's laptop, credits were rolling. The movie was over. It had been the usual horror movie : a girl makes wishes, then, it has terrible consequences, and her friends die one after the other because with each wish she just makes things worse.

"Seriously, it sucked." Teri mocked "This girl was stupid. Her friends too."
"What's that?" Lyndsay frowned.
"I mean, they can't make a movie about wishes right. Think about it, you get unlimited wishes, what do you wish for? Certainly not the wishes she made."
"Explain..." Lyndsay said, interested.
"For example, the girl used her first wish to make a girl she didn't like rot. What a waste! You can have a lot of stuff and you just get rid of one girl you didn't like? That's stupid. And she could end up being a zombie, or whatever. Just like when she wished her mom wasn't dead. Dumb wish. Don't make dead come back, you know it will be a mess."
"But she wished for love, thought."
"Great. She wished for one guy to love her. And then what? What if she grows tired of him? She's stuck with a magically in love ex she cannot get rid of."
"She wished to be popular."
"Popular about what? It could have turned her into a porn star or just some kind of dictator."
"Okay, okay, you thought the girl was stupid, I get it."
"She was stupid, geez." sighed Teri.

"So... what's a smart wish then? And no "unlimited wishes" or "godlike powers"!" Lyndsay asked with a smile
"Easy. That's not a one shot thing. Don't wish for someone to be in love with you. Wish for being able to make anyone fall in love with you. Don't wish for one million dollars. Wish for a company that makes you earn 1 million dollars every day. Don't wish to ace a test. Wish for being so smart you'll ace all tests."
"Someone watching us could tell your wish are stupid too." pointed Lyndsay, amused.
"No they're not!" exclaimed Teri, crossing her arms under her chest.
"Your wishes are inefficient. Wish to be able to make anyone fall in love with you, and nothing might happen. After all, you're already able to do that, it's just you're not that good at seducing people. Wish to be smart enough to ace any test, and poof, nothing might happen either. You can already ace any test if you study enough. And about the company..."
"Alright, alright, these weren't the best examples. But my point still stands." Teri pouted.
"Does it?"
"Sure. You simply have to wish for something that will visibly happen, and that you'll keep forever. Like saying..."

Little did Teri know Greg was spying on her, waiting for the next words going to escape her mouth
