Chapter #37Three Risky Options... by: Ifrit It was a long and tense road which they lived, a few times things seemed bleek or they where found out. But the Dragoness of a god never stopped by or found them. Quite a few times Christy couldn't help but think that maybe the dragon did know, and was simply taking amusement in watching them try. Yet she couldn't be sure, and she coudln't show weakness, the other girls needed her to be the beacon of hope for them... for the world!
They never needed to worry about power, given the base's power was rigged to be a mix of solar from the top, fuel generator and a small amount of geothermal that was around the base. Maybe they where considering expanding it at one point, it was hard to say. The lack of consistent fuel made the generators a nice emergency backup but a bad long term plan and the ash had made the solar panels useless, those that survived long enough out there at least. But given the abundance of lava around, the earth itself had gotten hotter and the girls where able to capitalize on it, though a few where lost in the setting up stages.
After some time, they had reached what they where calling "Stage 4" of the growth formula. It was very potent, dangerously so. Upon testing a extremely diluted sample on a tiny bug that quickly started to fill the room, braking several pieces of equipment and even some of the walls. Panic did spread that the bug would get too big that it would bust out of the base... exposing themselves to the dragon. Thankfully it's growth stopped, and the girls had plenty of bug meat to go around for a few weeks afterwards.
It was getting close to the point where they needed to just 'pull the trigger' on this, as Chrisy saw they where running low on other supplies and chemicals, not counting the bug meat of cause. Yet she had no idea if this formula would work, would it be enough... would it even work well with humans? It was a big risk to try it out on herself or any of her tribe. But it may be the best hope they have?
She saw three options right now, each of them risky in different ways.
The First was to send someone with some of the formula to a tribal village quite a ways away (She didn't want it to be close to there base and have Vanessa just ruin there tribe by mistake or worse yet, finding out about them.) and infect the tribe's water supply with the formula. Seeing how it would effect a tribe of people and how large they will grow.
This of cause had a lot of risks to it, the first is of cause sending someone out with the formula, if they are discovered by Vanessa or stopped by bandits... the formula could end up making things worse rather than better. Other problems could be that the Tribe would all die from the formula, or seeing people grow larger, Vanessa will start actively searching for why.
Though it was the best way of testing to the formula, allowing Chrisy and the Ravens to know how far along the formula was and how much they needed to do. Of cause it hadn't accrued to Chrisy that the formula was already done and the tribe would grow large enough to deal with Vanessa... maybe even moreso!
The Second option was to just use the formula now on the ravens themselves. Maybe on a test subject, maybe on herself or everyone. They wouldn't need to travel to try it, but it did mean risking one of her own, or herself. And if they don't get big enough, it would be the end of them all most likely.
The third option was to just wait and continue to develop the formula, maybe come up with some other ideas or something, however the risk here was of cause, they had no idea how long they had left, between the amount of supplies they had and Vanessa's whim. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
