“Really?” Liara rolled her eyes so hard, she could swear she heard her retinas snap. “This was what was so urgent?” As frustrating as this was, she was relieved there were no Collectors or face-hugging embryo-implanting arachnids inside. Still though, why was THIS so urgent?
She picked up one of the confections, a donut, as she’d remembered; Shepard had had her try one on a handful of occasions, all of which proved as good as she’d said. This one in particular had a simple chocolate glaze on it, with half being covered in blue sprinkles. Liara eyed the treat suspiciously, looking for any trace signs of poisons or razor blades, even though her security team had already cleared it for her. Just to be safe though...
“Dahlia? Would you come here for a moment?” She called to her assistant, prompting the young Asari to quickly bound back into her Liara’s office, her superior noting how her chest and belly bounced a bit more than she did.
“Yes, Miss T’soni?” Dahlia asked, taking a breathe between words, as she was out of breathe; Liara REALLY needed to get her to work out.
“You said this was cleared for poisons, correct?”
“Yes, ma’am,” Dahlia nodded her head assuredly, “Security ran it against every known poisonous substance on record, both natural and synthetic. Why do you ask?” She cocked her head slightly at this.
Liara gestured to the open box, and Dahlia took a look inside, seeing the 11 sweet torus’ inside.
“...pastries?” Dahlia looked even more confused now.
“Donuts,” Liara corrected, “A Human confection. This was your ‘important package’,” throwing up air quotes with her hands for emphasis.
Dahlia started at the treats for a moment, then back to the Shadow Broker. “Why?”
“I’m not sure, Dahlia, but an unmarked box from an unknown sender with food of questionable origin is going to do nothing but raise suspicion... although,” she eyed the one donut she’d removed from the box, “they do look quite good.” Though she wouldn’t like to admit it, her mouth had been watering for quite awhile, as she had yet to dig into her warm breakfast, and these WOULD make a nice addition... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
