Chapter #6

Living Doll

    by: BeeJay Author IconMail Icon
"It's called Living Doll," Mom said. "You play a fashion doll who gives a young girl pep talks to inspire her. The thing is, nobody but her knows that you're alive: only she can see you move or hear your voice."

"Sounds cool," Amanda replied. "I grew up with Barbies, and I'd love to play her. I can't wait to see my set and wardrobe."

"Don't worry about that," Mom said. "You've got quite an array of costumes for this movie. And no other movie star has ever had the accommodations you'll be enjoying."

Amanda and her mom got to the studio, and the director welcomed them. "So glad you're here, Ms. Green," he said. "This movie will be huge, and all because of you."

"Oh, stop it," Amanda said. "If you keep it up, my head will get too big for me to walk out the door."

"Oh, don't worry. If you had that problem, we could take care of that, no problem. Go to Wardrobe and get your appliance, then come back here."

•••

The appliance was like a body stocking, except made of latex, and the same color as her skin. It was designed to make her look like a naked doll. "This is wild," she said. "Do I wear it all the time?"

"No," the director replied, "only when you have to be naked for the movie. That way, you'll look like a Kimberly doll, not a real person."

"Kimberly? Is that the doll name, since I don't look exactly like a Barbie doll?"

"Precisely. Now, come this way. It's almost time for you to be ready."

Amanda and her mom followed the director to a corner of the room, where a strange device was located. "Do I get a trailer? What else is in my wardrobe?"

"You're about to find out, Amanda. Stand right here."

Amanda stood where she was told, and the director walked behind the machine. She heard it powering up, and then it shot a beam at her.
