Kara Zor-El flew across the skies above National City. She could hear everything. See everything. The hive of people and traffic heaving below. And yet, even as her surroundings were serene, her mind was furiously marred with conflict. So much had changed, yet so much stayed the same. Lena was bad, yet she was good again. Brainy was bad, and now he was gone. Lex was dead, then he was good (and alive), and now he was bad again.
All of these thoughts rolled through her head and more, but she silenced them. Her eyes swept across the city, seeking a duty. A responsibility. A chance to be a hero.
However, it seemed to be a quiet day. Everybody seemed to just be minding their own business.
Then, came a shriek. Turning on the spot, Kara raced towards the noise, right on the edge of causing a sonic boom. Smashing through the roof, she landed hard on the ground, causing the hard concrete floor to crater below her indestructible feet. Looking around, her vision pierced the gloom.
And then she saw it.
The sickly green glow.
She was kicking herself as she felt all her power drain from her body, slumping to her knee. Sh only had enough energy for one jump- so she took it. Yet, before she could clear the roof, she was intercepted in mid leap by a blast of potent green energy, slamming her into the wall. It was too late now- she could feel the last vestiges of her power draining out from her. With her last gasp of energy, she looked up.
