Chapter #5

someone else

A teenage girl you had never seen before was knocking on the sitting room window, peering in. She was about your size, maybe a little more petite, with long honey blond hair and blue eyes. Deciding it best to be cautious, you waved your hand over the two books, making them vanish, then walked to the sitting room entrance.

"May I help you?" opening the door a crack, you asked.

"Are you Jessica Moray?" firmly but kindly, the girl asked.

"Yes, I am." curious, you replied. "Who might you be?"

The girl offered you a small stack of papers. "I am Tia Rae, top graduate of Spell Blossom all girls boarding school." introducing herself, she said. "I have been summoned by your father to tutor you in the fine arts of magic and witchcraft."

"This is a joke, right?" hiding your nervousness, you said. "There's no such thing."

Tia smiled before discretely summoning a harmless flame to her hand. "We both know it exists, Jessica." quietly, she said. "I would prefer to continue this talk over a friendly cup of tea."

Your eyes widened, seeing the flame burn in Tia's hand and stepped aside, allowing her to enter. "Okay, I admit it would be foolish to think I was the only one with these powers, since mom had them." sitting down with Tia, you said. "Only how could dad know? I've been so careful."

"Your father has a power of his own." calmly, Tia replied. "Only its not my place to tell you what that power is, he must choose the right time to tell you."

"Or I must choose the right time to ask." to Tia's nod, you said. "I see..."

"Basically, he sensed you out and filled out the forms for a tutoring service request." summoning a tea set from nowhere, Tia said. "You will find his signature on the bottom of the last page."

You looked and saw that everything seemed to have been legit. "Okay, so where do we start?" curious, you asked. "I think I have all the basics down."

"Magic is a powerful tool, Jessica." offering you a cup of tea, Tia said. "However, if misused, it can do a lot of damage or even indirectly cause someone's death. Teaching yourself is not always a good idea, you must be properly trained."

"So you are here to get me to sign up for this Spell Blossom school?" curious, you asked.

"That would be preferable but your father is against this." sounding disappointed, Tia replied. "He has asked the dean of our school to send a tutor to help you learn her at home." she sighed, looking about. "I must admit, though, I am a bit nervous taking on this job."

"What do you mean?" confused, you asked. "I don't bite."

Tia giggled then sighed. "Its not you I'm concerned about." quietly, she said. "Remember me telling you that your father has a power of his own?" you nodded. "Well, your brothers have the same power and I am told they are very protective of you."

"Well... there is a place we could go." hesitant, you said. "Only it belonged to my mom so..."

"Its a personal space you rather not share with a stranger." softly, Tia said. "I understand that. You could come to my house to learn, its your choice."
