Chapter #9

Sure.

"I really never fished before." Honestly, you said. "Still, it might be fun."

"It's more a form of relaxation than fun." Smiling, Tex said. "One thing though, we eat what we catch."

"Well, having never fished, I don't know how to prepare fish for cooking either." Wincing, you said.

"It's not as hard as you think." Motioning to the door, Tex said. "Also, its not just a 'guy thing', I have seen some girls fish better than I could on my best day."

You smiled at that as Tex showed you his spare fishing rod. "Okay, I'll give it a try."

"Try to be back before dinner." Calmly, James said. "You know how grumpy dad gets when anyone upsets his busy schedule."

"We won't be long." Walking towards the door, Tex said. "Just long enough to catch dinner and teach Jessie how to get it ready for the pan."

With that, Tex led you out of the house to the spacious back yard, passed the pool and through a small grove of trees to a small river. "Technically, the river belongs to no one." Taking a seat near the water's edge." Tex said. "Still, this small piece runs through our property so we are free to fish here at any time."

Tex showed you how to bait the hook with a worm, which you cringed slightly at but Tex did not seem to notice and baited his own hook. He flipped the line and hook into the water and you did the same though a bit clumsily. Tex smiled. "It took me a few times to nail the perfect cast." Kindly, he said. "You did okay for your first try."

"So what do we do now?" Curious, you asked. "Just sit here and wait for a fish to take the bait?"

"That pretty much sums it up." Smiling, Tex said. "The fun comes from getting the fish who took the bait. Some of them like to put up a fight."

"How will I know if I caught something?"

Tex smiled. "You'll know."

Minutes slowly passed and you were beginning to get bored. That was until your fishing pole started to bend on its own. There was something tugging on the hook!

"Pull it in!" Excited, Tex shouted. " Get it out of the water before it works its way off the hook!"

You struggled with the pole, turning the wheel back so to reel in whatever you caught. After a few tense moments, something broke the surface!
