Chapter #6

Mixed up swap

Farley fired up the machine again, but this time it made a strange whining sounds, there was an electric noise and then there was a flash like before. When the flash died down both women looked about the same as before, but they were wearing each other’s clothes. “Wah happen dis time?” Nina asked, patting down her tan and curvy body. Farley caught the difference in speech instantly, but didn’t say anything. “Yes, Mr. Farley, did you just change our clothes?” Maria no longer had a hint of an accent.

Both women gasped as they realized they now talked like each other. “I … don’t entender [understand] wah eez happen,” Nina looked visibly shaken. Farley looked at the machine and could instantly tell that parts of the main circuit board had electrical damage. “Hold on ladies,” he gestured with a raised finger. He plugged in the device into a larger machine for diagnostics.

The changed women continued to look down at their current forms. Nina was once again wearing the flower-print summer dress and wedges she had been wearing before Farley had originally fired up his device. The dress displayed her new, prodigious cleavage in a way it never would have with her original body and Nina thought the cut was a little more risque. Maria was back to wearing the plain, white tee and blue jeans, but her outfit looked decidedly less strained by Nina’s smaller curves.

“Farley, bebe [baby]?” Nina called out after she looked at her ID again. It now read had her original name, but it still had Maria’s physical information. Maria looked at hers and noticed that she now had an Anglo-Saxon last name she didn’t recognize. She was a little disappointed that she was back to her old life apparently, she’d liked the idea of being Mr. Farley’s wife. Keeping Mrs. Nina’s body wasn’t a bad trade-off though. “Yes, honey,” Farley replied, still looking at his computer screen. “Look, bebe,” he finally turned around. Nina was pointing at a wedding photo on the wall behind them.

The picture showed Farley and Nina in a loving embrace right after their ceremony. Farley looked the same as before, but Nina had Maria’s body in the picture! She was wearing a very different dress than what she remembered. This new dress made no effort to hide what had been Maria’s chubby figure. “Hmm, interesting. That certainly tracks with the readout I’m seeing. Very interesting,” Farley commented, tapping his chin.

“What chu mean, bebe?” Nina asked. “Well, according to the diagnostic the device started to but you both back to normal, but there was a failure in one of the main capacitors,” Farley pointed at the charred circuit board, “That triggered a safeguard I built into it in case of an overload.” Farley pointed at the string of code on the screen.

Both women looked at Farley quizzically, “Sorry, I … yeah, this looks like a bunch of nonsense, doesn’t it?” the scientist apologized. Maria and Nina nodded. “Well, basically the device stopped part-way through the transfer and tried to compensate by putting you back in your respective lives, but it also gave you pieces of one another’s history and persona to make reality function. I honestly did not think my invention would have this sort of power,” Farley explained. His wife and maid looked at each other up and down. They both wondered what exactly they had from each other besides the obvious.

“Will you be able to fix it, Mr. Farley?” Maria asked, voicing the women’s question. “Yes, yes, of course, but it will take some time to get some parts I’ll need delivered. I’ll also need to figure out a way to prevent another power surge again.” Farley gave the women an apologetic shrug.

“Chu mean we’re stuck like dis?” Nina asked, gesturing back and forth between herself and Maria.

“No, no, you’re not stuck. I’ll fix this, honey,” Farley raised his hands defensively.

“But what are we going to do for now?” Maria asked.

“Um, well, from my readings you should be able to go about your life like normal. No one will think it strange that you look like this. They’ll think this is your normal body.”

“People will think ah always look like dis? I always sound like dis?” Nina asked. “Yes, honey, but only until I repair the machine. Then you can both go back to normal,” Farley replied, noticing how much his wife’s new body jiggled when she got agitated. He’d secretly always had a thing for chubby women, but he would never have told Nina that before.

“For now I suggest you go home and get some rest, Maria. I’m sure this has been a very trying experience.”

Maria actually felt full of energy, unlike anything she’d felt for a long time, but she was grateful for the opportunity to leave and enjoy her borrowed body. “Yes, Mr. Farley, thank you!” Maria grabbed her purse and headed out.
