Johanna continued to peek into her neighbor's houses, her vision easily piercing through any wall and any obstacle, as far away as... well, she wasn't sure, really. The girl's supervision had not yet come across any sort of limit, nor had her superhearing - listening to the neighbor's conversation was no more trivial than listening to a whispered chat two people she knew from school were having in the town library, a mile down the street.
She quickly got lost in her newfound abilities, not really loosing much thought on why or how this was even happening.
Right as she was listening to some music in the headphones of a woman all the way back in the near-by 24 hour store, she realized that her feet weren't touching the wooden floor any longer. A feeling of falling down overcame her and she quickly looked down - accidentally seeing right through the floor at first, something that a few rapid blinks helped to remedy. Though, the sight that followed was no better: indeed, her feet were not touching the ground any longer, levitating an inch or so above it!
Johanna somehow found the willpower to not scream out loud, even as the surprise and the odd feeling of not being aground told her, in no unclear terms and as urgently as possible, to shout and flail around and panic (at least a little!). But she managed to keep herself relatively calm by holding in her breath.
"Why am I floating?" she thought to herself, her voice giving away her fear, "Am I doing this?"
She helplessly looked around herself, trying to move, trying to 'step down' from the invisible surface she found herself on, but it was no use - there was nothing underneath her, nothing to step off of.
Moving one leg forward she then accidentally caused herself to drift a little backwards, no floating in mid-air at a 45° angle, further adding to her stress...
Another kick of her leg and she had spun upside down. Perhaps this was of her own doing, she thought, considering what other amazing powers she had suddenly acquired that day. Maybe if she just concentrated hard enough...
...and then she found herself floating upward, till her feet made contact with the ceiling. She had solid material underneath her feet again, but it was upside-down, unfortunately. Maybe if she just visualized the room as she had the car earlier, and then do a gentle hop...
...the levitation began anew as she slowly floated downward, just far enough to get her feet off of the ceiling. Now she willed her body to spin around, till she was the right side up again. Then, with just a tad nudge, she moved forward through her room, inches underneath the ceiling. "Hey, this is fun!" she happily exclaimed, slowly moving in circles around her bed. It took her a good few minutes before deciding to get back on the ground.
Looking down at the floor, then at herself and her hands and finally at her image in the mirror opposite to her, she could not help but smirk widely, totally amazed by the fact that not only was she somehow able to see through walls and hear for miles, but she could also fly! She would have to try out just how well that would work out in the open.
That same moment, the 8-year-old also remembered that she had not breathed ever since starting to hold in her breath, minutes ago. But she didn't feel any urge either - there was no uncomfortable feeling indicating that she were running out of air. She consciously breathed in, waited, breathed out again. Repeated the whole thing, but then waited.
Minutes passed, a smirk forming on her face in the meantime, and she was perfectly fine not breathing in at all.
Her eyes glanced out of her window as she considered what to do now. It was already dark outside and she knew her Dad would not return from work till later.
