Twilight raced to the Princesses finding them in Celestia's quarters, the three all across the room, papers thrown all about "Princess!?" Twilight rushed to Celestia "What happened? Was there a fight? Was it discord!?" Twilight yelled in a panic
"No... his contract is up." Celestia said
"C-contract?" Twilight asked
"Twilight..." Celestia looked to the other Princesses who nodded "All the villains you've fought up to this point were staged." Celestia said
"WHAT!?" Twilight screamed
"We had reasons for it." Cadence said
"Which were!?" Twilight yelled
"We... needed an enemy for our nation to rally against." Celestia said
"You mean Nightmare moon was fake!?" Twilight yelled
"Yep..." Celestia said
"And Discord?" Twilight asked
"We... found some actor from star trot." Celestia said
"Chrysalis! What about her?" Twilight asked
"Me." Luna raised her hoof
"I was kinda surprised nopony noticed Luna was gone the whole time." Celestia said
"Sombra! He-he plagued the Crystal empire! Right?" Twilight asked
"I was really lazy with that one... I came up with him at the last minute." Cadence said shamefully
"Lazy!? But he did all those awful things way-way back a long time ago!" Twilight said
"No he didn't. That's the beauty of having a villain who did awful things a long time long before any living pony could have witnessed or testified against it. We didn't even have a pony from Sombra, he was just some magical effects." Cadence said
"Does... does Shining know?" Twilight asked
"We've considered telling him..." Cadence said
"We worry he'll feel like he wasted years of his life training..." Luna said
"Should he be proud!?" Twilight yelled
"The royal guard help many ponies and stop many petty crimes!" Luna argued
"Let's stay on track please." Celestia said before looking at Twilight "We've run out of ideas, Twilight. We need you to come up with one." Celestia said
"But-but this is wrong!" Twilight said
"Is it? We create enemies for our ponies to rally against, we defeat them showing the power of our country and remind them that they are safe and we are strong. No ponies actually get hurt, and the ponies that do get hurt are actors who were in on it the whole time."
Twilight tried to think of a point "But you're lying to them!" Twilight said
"True, but there are ponies who consider trying to do awful things. These "villains" are also a strict reminder to ponies who think to do awful things." Celestia said
Twilight sighed she really couldn't think of a response "Okay well what about Tirek? Everypony knows about him!" Twilight said
"Yeah funny thing. That was the real Tirek. Spending all that time in Tartarus he took inventory of his life and set his mind on acting. What could be an easier role then to play yourself?" Celestia asked
"Though his letters speak of sorrows for he is quite harshly type casted." Luna said
