Your Eric Long, a sixteen year old boy just about to start your first year of high school in the cluster after accompanying your parents on a one year trip to Earth to help out with the Earth restoration project. You'd hated every minute of it. The weather was horrible, the food was bad, and the people of Earth were nothing like the people of the cluster. They were ignorant, even stupid at times, rude, violent, and they had all these hangups about sex and modesty, and being happy with the body your born with that you'll never understand even if you live to be a hundred, a likely prospect given the state of medical technology these days, even on back water mud balls like Earth. Your happy to be back home, and even happier that you'll be attending your old school district, although you will be attending a new school this year since your in high school now. Still, most of your friends from junior high will be there as well, so even with the new school it'll still be better than last year when you were thrust into a strange school and an even stranger culture where you didn't fit in, and didn't know anybody. At least that's what you thought until your parents sprung this latest surprise on you. It was a real doozy to, and now your starting to think that maybe Earth wasn't so bad after all. At least there nobody was trying force you into becoming a girl!

"Mom, for the last time, there's no way I'm gonna let you and Dad turn me into a girl!" You exclaim, hoping that if you argue enough you can get them to change their minds somehow.

"Don't talk back to your mother boy, you'll do what you'll told and that's final!" your Dad ordered.

"But Dad, what if you were in my place? Would you just go along with something like this?" you ask.

Your Dad starts to get angry at your disrespectful tone, but before he can yell at you your Mom interrupts.

"Don't irritate your father Eric, it's not his fault. Neither one of us want's to force you into something like this, but the school instituted a new program last year while you were away. Every student has to spend one full school year as a member of the opposite sex in order to graduate, there's nothing we can do." You Mom patiently explained.

"Besides, being a girl for a while should be good for you. Maybe it will help curb that macho attitude you picked up back on Earth." you father added.

"Oh like your one to talk!" you replied. You regretted it as soon as you'd said it, due to the trouble you knew you'd just caused yourself, but it was true nonetheless. Your Dad has a macho streak a mile long, and an overbearing personality on top of that, making him rather hard to deal with at the best of times, which these definitely weren't.

"Boy, talk back to me like that again and it'll be the last thing you ever do. I WAS planning on letting you remain a boy until right before school starts, but thanks to that little comment of your, I think we'll be taking you to the change clinic first thing tomorrow." Your Dad threatened.

"Alright, alright, I'm sorry, I won't do it again! Just please don't make me into a girl!" I begged.

"As your mother already said, it's not up to us. I suppose I can give you a give you a few more days though, IF you cooperate." Your Dad replied.

"The district huh? You know, maybe I was wrong to pressure you guys to leave Earth so soon. In fact, if we hurry, we might even be able to make it back before the new school year starts!" you said with fake enthusiasm.

"I don't think so kiddo, your father and I had to pull a lot of strings to get back to the cluster so soon, and it's much too late to go back now even if we wanted to. Besides, didn't you just spend all last year complaining about how much you hated the place?" your Mom pointed out.

"Well yea, but it kind of grows on you after a while you know? Birth place of humanity and all that." I bluffed.

"Sorry, still not buying it." Mom replied.

"Alright fine, I hated the place, and I never want to go back, but still, it's better than being a girl for a year!" you answered. "Are you sure I have to do it this year? Can't I put it off until next year, or the year after that?" You asked hopefully.

"Technically you were suppose to go through the program last year. The only reason you didn't was that you were going to school on Earth at the time." your Mom explained, shattering your last hope of getting out of this situation, even temporarily. Then something she'd said suddenly registered.

"Wait a minute, If I was suppose to go through this last year than that means....." you begin.

"Yes, that means that all your friends have already been through it." Your Mother says, adding "Your rather fortunate in a way if you think about it. Since they've already been through it they should be able to help you adjust more easily."

"Yea, lucky me." you reply sarcastically.

Your Dad finally looses patience, not that he's ever had much to begin with, and says "Enough of this! Boy, are you going to cooperate or not? You know what will happen if you refuse."

You sigh, knowing you can't win, not against the both of them and the school district, but maybe you can at make it a draw. "Alright, fine, I'll cooperate." you say.
