Chapter #5

The Not-So-Great Escape

    by: TheCrimsonFreak Author IconMail Icon
Your lungs burn in protest on your mad sprint towards the door, your legs ache like the muscles had been stretched on a rack. The rush of adrenaline is barely enough to keep you going, even with escape as a prize and your life on the line. And still, you run as fast as you can, the open door getting ever closer....and only make it halfway to the door when you hear a familiar voice.

"What the...Sylvia! Stop!" Jedda calls out, the floor shaking as the bahamat steps towards you. You wail in fear and try to push yourself faster, feeling on the verge of passing out. Just a little bit further, and you'd make it to the door!

...But your confinement in that cage hadn't done any favors for the shape you were in. A small space, coupled with constantly being surrounded by man-eating giant creatures had put excercise off your mind. Add to this the very, very, very big difference in scale between you and Jedda--who could cover what would take you half and hour of running in just a few steps--and it was all but impossible for her not to catch you.

A shadow suddenly envelopes you, and before you can even look back, two giant blue fingers close around your form, stopping you in your tracks "Gotcha!" Jedda quips, chuckling. Enveloped by her chubby fingers, you feel yourself lifted up, up, and up...until you're staring your captress right in her massive face; her hippo's snout and mischievous eyes all but filling your view. You try to cower away, but Jedda's pinching you in such a way that you can't look away from her.

"How'd you get out, Sylvia? Were you really trying to sneak out?" she interrogates, tilting her head.

All you can look at, though, is her mouth. "P-please don't eat me..."

Jedda snorts. "You know I'm getting help...and don't change the subject! How did you get out, and were you trying to sneak out of here? Go see another patient?"

"I...I...I...put me down, please, Jedda. Just p-p-put me back in my cage--and don't tell Whitney! Please!" You'd seen humans beg before, it never worked. Monsters just ignored the pleading and ate their prey; or even worse, found it amusing and toyed with humans before gulping them down. It didn't matter. All you could think of was getting away from Jedda before she had a lapse in willpower...and not earning Whitney's wrath.

Jedda loosens her grip and pulls her head back. She even smiles at you...thankfully, no skeletons are stuck in her teeth this time. "Calm down, Sylvia. I'm not going to hurt you, and I won't tell Whitney. Even if I did think you were faking, that rhino just takes it too far. Just calm down, alright? Now, I'll just put you back in the cage and--"

It was then that a rumbling, liquid noise resounded. Like a rockslide under water, or....
Or a massive stomach growling.

Jedda looks down at her rotund belly, poking it with her free hand. Then she looks up at you. You are both silent for a long moment.

"J-Jedda...please, t-t-try to control yourself. Please..." This time, you start to cry.
