Experimental brain transplant surgery saves either your life, or someone very close.

This choice: You come to sometime later and your parents are both there.  •  Go Back...
Chapter #6

You come to sometime later and your parents are...

You awoke some time later, not entirely sure when or even where. Your previous awakening seeming more like an incredibly vivid dream than anything that could have possibly been real. Opening your eyes slowly, you were confronted by the very welcoming sight of your mother and your father standing over you. Their voices quietly echoing in your ears.

"Hey there, buddy," your father said as you began to stir, "Welcome back to the land of the living." An incredibly relieved looking smile appearing on both his and your mother's faces.

"Unn... What... What's going on?" you groaned, feeling incredibly sluggish. As if not every part of your body had woken up just yet.

"You're in the hospital, sweetheart," your mother replied. Brushing a hand gently against your cheek. "There were a few complications from the accident, but the doctors assured us that you're fine now."

This mention of an accident immediately putting to mind what the two of them had told you before, about Allison. Letting out a concerned yelp as you struggled to sit up.

"Oh God... ALLISON! Allison... Is she...?"

"She's fine. She's resting."

"But its true, isn't it?" you asked. "It's all true? She's... She's in someone else's body now."

Your mother nodded, indicating that she was. This leading you to ask them then if they'd actually seen her. If they'd seen what your girlfriend had now become.

"Yes. The doctors took us a couple of hours ago, while she was still sleeping," your father said, his voice quickly trailing off. As if unsure of what else to say. It obviously seeming just as weird to him as it was to you. The idea of Allison being someone else now. A thirty-one year old, heavily pregnant kindergarten teacher at that.

Thankfully your mom quickly stepped in again (having always been better with words). Grasping your hand and telling you that, "What happened to Allison is just awful, Tim. I can't imagine how she's going to feel when she wakes up. But at least she's alive, and we'll all do our best to help her get through this in any way we can. She won't be alone." Being glad in a way that your family had taken to your girlfriend so well. Your mother at times treating her more like a daughter.

This didn't negate the fact however that the two doctors expected her to actually live Natalie's life as if it were her own. To have her baby. As if Allison Lowry were really dead. Putting this to your parents, as well as the fact that they'd actually agreed to this arrangement. Still not believing that they could.

Your parents were quick to explain though. Reiterating what the doctors had said about how it was "for the best" and that there really was "no other way". Knowing how upsetting it must be for you and wishing that there was some other option, but making it abundantly clear that there was not. Allison had to be Natalie Stevens now. She had to. Neither of them having the heart to let the baby girl (which it apparently was) die either. And being pretty sure that Allison would want the same. Which, knowing your girlfriend and how kind and compassionate she was, was 100% true. And while you still didn't like it, listening to them explaining their side of the story, you couldn't really blame them any longer. After all, What other choice did they have? They were only doing what they thought was right, as were the doctors. Groaning however that, "It just sucks is all. Why did this have to happen?" To Allison of all people.

"I know. I wish it hadn't either," your mother softly spoke, brushing a hand through your hair. "But it has, and we've got to do everything we can now to make Allison's transition as easy as possible. And to help her through the rest of the pregnancy."

"And then what?" you asked. "What's gonna happen when the baby... you know..." Finding yourself quite unable to even say the words "is born". It still seeming far too unreal.

"Well... That'll be up to Allison to decide," she replied. "Whether she wants to keep her or give her up for adoption. Legally it is her child now."

Legally? you had to laugh. This whole thing being anything but that. The doctors having admitted it themselves. But still, you knew what she meant. If Allison was now Natalie and had Natalie's body and Natalie's womb, then the baby growing inside it was technically now a part of her too. A big part.

Leading you to question, "But what about school?... What about college?... What about us?" The two of you having had so many plans together. Plans that didn't involve any of this.

Receiving a rather vague, "Obviously those things will have to change" response. "She's a full grown woman now. And while the two of you will obviously still care for one another, it'll just be in a... slightly different way."

This being your mother's less than subtle way of telling you that a sixteen year old boy couldn't really be seen getting all lovey-dovey with a thirty-one year old woman. Which made sense. Though to be honest, you had no idea what she looked like now or how you were even going to react when you saw her. It being so difficult to wrap your head around. So much so that you were dreading actually having to go to see her when she woke up.

Inevitably you had to go see her though, you knew that. And after talking with your parents for a little while longer, as well as getting a visit from David and Tabitha, Dr. Saunders appeared. Informing you that she was now awake. Having had the exact reaction you might have expected; being incredibly freaked out at first. But, as with most things (and especially where your relationship was concerned), Allison had somehow managed to keep a level head. Being extremely grateful to be alive, no matter who she now was, or what she was soon to be faced with.

"...She was asking after you in fact, Tim," Saunders told you. "Wanted to see you when you were up and about. Which according to your latest test results, should be in a couple of hours. You seem to be on your way to a full recovery now."

While this really shouldn't have come as any kind of surprise (she was your girlfriend after all), you weren't entirely sure how to respond. Very much clamming up as soon as the doctor had said this.

"That is... If you want to of course."

"I... I... Yeah," you stuttered, "Of... Of course. Sorry. I guess I'm just a little nervous is all. You know, seeing her like... like that." Nervous being an understatement.

Thankfully the doctor appeared to emphasize with you plight. Assuring you that it was completely understandable given the situation. "But believe you me, Tim, there really is nothing to worry about. Other than her outer appearance and most of her brain now being Natalie's, Allison is still the same girl she's always been, and she's going to need your help more than ever to get through this thing."

"I know," you nodded. There being nobody closer than the two of you had been. Not even her parents of her friends (the latter of which she'd no longer be able to even talk to).

"So, what do you say? Shall I tell her you'll swing by?"

Your answer to this being, "Yeah. Of course I will." Knowing full well that despite your fears, she was still very much your girlfriend and you'd always be there for her, no matter what... or who she'd now become.

"Good," the doctor smiled. Patting you on your shoulder. "Well get some rest for now then. I'll be back in a little while."

And that he was. Returning a couple of hours later once you were up and walking again. The drugs having finally worn off. Leading you down the hospital corridor, towards another room at the end of the hall. This being where Allison was.

"Are you ready?" he asked on seeing your hesitation as you stopped in front of the door.

"I... I think so," you lied. Not entirely sure you'd ever be. This entire situation feeling so incredibly weird.

"Well then, on you go."

"You mean you're not coming in with me?" you asked him. Having assumed he would be.

"Me? Oh no. No," he answered, shaking his head. "She wants to see you, Tim, not me. I'm sure I'd only get in the way."

Maybe. But at least that way I wouldn't have to face her alone, you thought to yourself, before quickly realizing, What the hell am I thinking? It's Allison. My girlfriend. I shouldn't be scared to visit my own damn girlfriend! Not after the amount of time the two of you had spent together; you round at her house, or her round at yours. Having virtually lived in each others pockets these last four years. It being ridiculous then that you were feeling so afraid. So she looks different now. So what? The doctor said it himself; she's still the same girl underneath. The same girl I fell in love with.

With this in mind then, you gave the elderly, gray haired doctor one last little nod, took a deep breathe and then knocked on the door. Listening as an entirely unfamiliar voice called out in reply, "Come in." This of course being Allison.

Taking your cue, you pushed open the door and stepped inside. Finding that instead of a cute and slim, sixteen year old girl laying on the bed waiting to greet you, there sat a rather attractive brunette staring up at you expectantly. Clearly being much older than you, but not 'old' old. Looking rather youthful still, with shoulder length dark brown hair, gray eyes and cute girl-next-door features. Her cheeks having a sort of rosy glow. The sight of which admittedly took you aback slightly. Not expecting her to be quite so pretty.

Oh my God... That's... That's Allison! Barely being able to believe it even now.

Saying nothing for the giant spherical bump that was pushing out from the material of her hospital gown. On top of which sat a pair of extremely large breasts. Natalie Stevens being stacked!
