Experimental brain transplant surgery saves either your life, or someone very close.

This choice: You received the transplant.  •  Go Back...
Chapter #11

You received the transplant.

    by: Unknown
Finding out that it had been you who'd nearly died on the operating table and now had part of someone else's brain inside your skull was admittedly quite a lot to take in at first. Especially after Dr. Kerry had made it seem like you'd been absolutely fine. The few stitches he'd briefly mentioned you having being the only allusion he'd given you to the actual surgery itself (having apparently used an incredibly new and non evasive technique). But, after both him and Dr. Saunders had explained it all in much greater details, as well as showed you the various scan results that proved everything was fine, you actually felt rather relieved. Happy even. Sure, it was still pretty freaky the idea of having someone else's brain attached to yours ...but then, doctors did all kinds of different transplants these days. Was this really that much different from any of them?

The answer was of course yes, but you tried to ignore that. Simply glad to be alive.

The only downside you discovered to all of this, was the fact that you couldn't tell anyone else. The doctors making sure you signed their NDA before you could have any visitors. Absolutely bursting to tell your conspiracy and sci-fi loving best friend, Randall about the whole military 'ghost program thing' (knowing fine well it'd blow his mind too), but unfortunately being unable. Needing to keep it to yourself, lest you wind up getting sued... or worse!

Shit. Maybe the military will have me whacked! you thought. Having seen enough movies where that exact thing had happened.

They were only movies though, but just to be on the safe side, you were just going to have to keep quiet. At least for now. Instead, just laying there on your hospital bed listening to your family all telling you how good it was to see that you were okay, while you waited for the drugs to wear off. The five of them being completely in the dark as well. Only aware that the doctors had used some new and 'highly experimental' surgery to keep you alive. Knowing nothing of what it had actually involved. A nice little payout from the hospital keeping them from asking too many questions.

And so, two days later, once you were well enough to walk again, you left the hospital both with your parents, and with a large check sitting in your father's pocket. Your father informing you that it was going towards both a replacement car, as well as your college education, much to your dismay. Having much preferred a sweet new computer and a load of Xbox games instead.

You did receive a slightly different piece of compensation once you returned home however. Having been advised by Dr. Kerry to take things easy for the next week or so. Meaning that you got to miss the first week back at school. Seeing as the accident had occurred during the last week of the holidays, and you'd spent almost 4 days in bed, you were extremely glad to get this little extension (even if damaging part of your brain had caused it). Really rubbing this fact in with your little brother and sister, who thought that it was "totally unfair" that they had to go back to school and you didn't. Spending the next few days with your feet up watching TV or messing around on your computer. Experiencing, just as the doctors had told you, no side effects from the procedure whatsoever. In fact, apart from the few bumps and bruises, you felt completely normal, and were simply milking this suggested rest period for all it was worth. Enjoying having the house all to yourself when your mother did occasionally take a break from the housework and head out. Doing so one Wednesday afternoon, to go to her weekly gym session with her friend Rebecca. Telling you not to get up to any mischief while she was away.

"...And if you get really bored, you can always try and get a head start on some of that homework." Randall having brought some over so you didn't miss anything in class.

"Okay, Mom. Will do," you replied. Only half listening as you continued on with the game of Call of Duty you were currently engaged in.

Laughing at this, knowing fine well you wouldn't (not while you were off school), she scoffed, "Yeah right. That'll be the day!", before informing you that she'd be back in a few hours. Disappearing out your bedroom door then and down the stairs. Leaving you alone at last to do what you'd been itching too ever since you'd woken up the morning. Having been unable to with her hovering around. And that was, surf some porn.

"Oh, yes," you smiled. Finishing up your game and then switching on your computer. "Internet, let's see what you've got for me."

An hour later, and after having trawled through as many adult video sites and picture galleries you could find (your searches usually targeting skinny chicks with impossibly large breasts), you started to notice for the very first time since you'd left the hospital, your head feeling decidedly funny. As if you had a headache coming on... only not quite. It being a weird sensation in your temples. Sort of like a steady pulsing that appeared to be speeding up. Thinking to yourself as you rubbed at your head, What the hell...? Wondering if this had anything to do with the transplant you'd received and quickly reaching for the bottle of pills Dr. Kerry had given you. Hoping that they might rid you of it. Downing a couple, before returning again to your porn. Finding that you couldn't really concentrate until this feeling went away. Needing to find something else to do until then.

Oh well, Mom did want me to go do my homework, you sighed. Figuring that you might as well do as you were asked. If only for the distraction. Gathering up your school books and laying them down on your desk, you read a few passages about famous spies throughout history. Kind of wishing that you could be a spy... that you could pretend like you were someone else for a while. If only to get away from having to actually do homework. The thought of this making you grin.

Just then however, you suddenly felt a sharp pain in your head and stumbled off your chair, knocking the contents of your wastebasket all over the floor as you fell.

"Fuck me!" you groaned, after it had passed. "That's definitely not normal." Picking yourself up off the floor and grabbing at your forehead. Praying to God that your brain wasn't rejecting its new part. No. No. Don't be stupid, Tim, you told yourself, shaking off this rather terrifying thought. The doctors said everything was working just fine. Speculating then that it was probably just the onset of a migraine from staring at screen for so long. Having, after all, hardly been off either your computer, television or Xbox since you'd returned home. Barely leaving your room. ...Yeah, that's probably it.

Letting out another sigh then as you surveyed the mess on your floor, you quickly set about cleaning it all up. Lest your mom come home and find it. Your bedroom being in a bad enough state already without this added to the pile.

Then it suddenly happened.

You felt that pulsating in your head finally reach a breaking point and you collapsed once again onto the floor. Your body now twitching and gasping as if it were having some kind of seizure, while your entire world suddenly turned black. Leading you to squeal, What the fuck is going on? It feeling like your entire skull was vibrating. Like there was something in there desperately trying to get out.

Shit, shit, SHIT! you thought as you grabbed at your head and began banging it against the carpet below. Hoping to somehow drown out this feeling. Not that it seemed to have any effect.

That was until... as abruptly as it had started, it suddenly stopped, and everything slowly went back to normal. ...Thank Christ for that.

Or at least you thought it had. It being only on opening your eyes that you realized something was very wrong indeed. No longer laying on the floor of your bedroom, instead you were...
