Hanson knew that with whatever was going on in town, he couldn't tell how people would react to him. He decided to check one of the houses that was likely unoccupied. He walked towards the closest house and stepped up onto the front porch. Pulling his hatchet out of his backpack, he approached the front door cautiously. Trying the door handle, he found it was unlocked. Opening the door, he walked into the house and locked the door behind him.
Feeling relieved to be out of the cold, Hanson walked over to the couch in the nearby living room and sat down. Hanson glanced at the photos mounted on the wall to his left.
