Chapter #5
Ask for a demonstration of the watches power
by: Unknown
"Could you show me how it works?"
He nods. Then the old man holds out the watch tightly in his hands.
"The reason you came in here today is the job interview for the assistant shop keeper's position, which I pleased to offer you and you are ecstatically happy to accept."
You feel a tingle. Then a huge smile comes across your face. You look around the shop. It seems so inviting and there is so much to explore.
"Really, you're offering me the job," you feel butterflies in your stomach and you wonder if you are going to faint in happiness. "I--I accept."
"Good. In five or ten years you'll be ready to take over the shop and I'll be able to retire."
"You mean the shop could be mine." You can't help it, you give him a hug as you cry tears of joy.
"I'm sure you'll be the perfect person to take over the shop when the time comes." You feel another tingle and resolve to make that true.
"I do need you to start tomorrow, seven am sharp, we're moving the shop."
"Oh?"
"Yes, to Aberdeen."
"You mean Texas?" That's a couple of hours away and you think you'll just have enough time to get back for the date with Travis.
"Scotland actually. The store is magical and will move itself. We just need to be here at seven am, sharp."
Your eyes widen. You guess the date with Travis will have to wait.
"How long will we be there," you ask.
"Five to ten years, maybe longer."
"I'll see you at seven." You're still ecstatic, and what job doesn't come without some complications. Still, you've made your decision and are committed.
You still smiling brightly as you get up to leave. You're almost at the door when he holds out the watch.
"Oh, are you still interested in this?"
You consider it for a moment.
"Nah, I'm not gonna make the date. Besides, that thing is dangerous, we wouldn't want it in the wrong hands."
"Quite right," the old man, Mr. Feldman, answers. He opens a safe and puts it away.
