"Ladies and gentlemen, put your hands together for Ellen the Fantastic, and her assistant Mystic Mackenzie!" the announcer boomed, prompting a round of applause from the crowd as the curtains parted from the stage.
Mackenzie and Ellen appeared on the stage amid a cloud of smoke, bowing low and giving their best smiles. The duo had started their act small, and it had taken time to work their way to this point, but they were actually proving themselves as an act that could draw a crowd. The building wasn't sold out, but it was as close as the two performers had come, and not too far off.
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen!" Ellen said in a silky tone. Ellen had never been one to shout to address a crowd, instead using her sheer force of personality to get people's attention. "I hope you're all ready to be amazed and entertained. Tonight's show will be one you'll never forget!"
"That's right, Ellen." Mackenzie chimed in. "There might be plenty of magicians in the world, but none will leave you as amazed as us!"
The crowd clapped in response once again. There was no denying that the two attractive magicians had strong personalities that made it easy for crowds to love them. Mackenzie and Ellen both knew that this was at least partially responsible for their success.
The show's introduction proceeded as it always did. The girls got some laughs, some cheers, and plenty of applause as they told their jokes and performed a few minor tricks. Soon enough, it was time for the first real event of the night.
"And now, prepare to be amazed as I showcase my powers of hypnosis!" Ellen stated, her confident voice carrying across the theater.
This was what Ellen had been waiting for. While she never mentioned it to Mackenzie, the cute blonde had a habit of looking for criticism of her act. One of the big complains was that her hypnosis was allegedly "clearly fake" and only possible because of plants in the audience or using Mackenzie as the subject of hypnosis. That simply wasn't true; Ellen's talent was the real deal, and she intended to prove it tonight!
Sure, she hadn't consulted Mackenzie about her plan, but surely her redheaded assistant would understand, right? Proving her powers could be a huge boost to their popularity!
The duo went through the usual motions. Mackenzie focused on the swinging pocket watch, and Ellen waited to see Mackenzie's eyes glaze over. Once they did, she knew her assistant was under her control.
"Alright, Mackenzie. You'll obey any command I give you, with no complaint or hesitation. Do you understand?" Ellen asked.
"I understand." Mackenzie answered in monotone.
"Good. Now, I know there are those of you in the audience who think this is fake. So let me go ahead and prove how wrong you are! Mackenzie, I command you to-" indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
