Workplace Accident

    by: MightyHalberd Author IconMail Icon
It was a quiet night in Gotham City, the moonless sky drowning the streets and alleys in darkness, and a dense, humid fog hanging in the air, hinting at a coming storm. Grace Balin, better known to some as the supervillain Orca, would have preferred to spend an evening like this relaxing and waiting for the rain to wash away this oppressive heatwave, but even a nine-foot tall mutant whale woman needed to work.

Breaking into Arcadia Financial Group was easy enough; the back door crumbled and fell open with one good shove, and the night guards were easily dispatched. Ripping the metal grating off the wall between her and the vault, there was still the vault itself. Crossing her muscular arms, Orca looked over the electronic seals and valves between her and the loot inside. Cautiously she reached out and prodded the door with her webbed fingers, recoiling slightly at the jolt of electricity jumping to her hand.

"This thing's wired..." Orca said aloud, shaking the numbness off her hand. "Don't think I can rip this out."

"Not to worry, I have just the thing."

A much shorter, stouter figure appeared on Orca's right, barely reaching the whale woman's forearms. Unlike Orca, who was in little else besides a white chest wrap and boy shorts, putting her monochrome rubbery skin on full display, the smaller woman was fully decked out in a chocolate colored jumpsuit crisscrossed with multicolored bandoliers, none of which matched her frizzy pink hair or the large opaque goggles patterned with candy-cane swirls. The bizarrely dressed woman pondered the door for a moment, then unholstered the spray nozzles on her belt, spraying what looked like whipped cream onto the seams and hinges. The whipped cream bubbled and fizzled for a moment before the vault door sparked and collapsed, its edges melting into a sweet-smelling goop. With a grin on her face, the woman reached into her pocket and dropped a cherry on top of the broken vault door.

"Perfection!" she said, performing a chef's kiss.

"Nicely done," Grace complimented her, lowering her head to step into the vault proper. A few moments and the sound of wrenching metal later, Orca re-emerged with a safety deposit box over one shoulder, dropping it with a loud crash at her feet. The smaller woman wasted no time and quickly pulled out a pink can-opener and used it to remove the lock and open it up, revealing a stash of financial papers and deeds.

"Ooh, this is perfect!" the woman said excitedly, flipping through the files and stuffing a few into her jumpsuit. "I can use these to blackmail Falcone into returning my father's bakery, with interest!"

"Not before a generous donation to the city orphanages and soup kitchens," Orca added, digging out some old promissory notes. "Could send these to the Gotham Aquarium, they've been having financial troubles for years."

"Not as many as you're going to have, Grace."

Orca looked up with a snarl at the sight of two figures standing in the doorway; the young Robin, armed with his combat staff, standing beside Batgirl ready with a batarang. Orca's teammate was the last to ready herself, jumping to her feet with a surprised yelp. The two heroes regarded her with confusion.

"Condiment King?" Batgirl guessed.

"N-no...I'm the Confectionery Queen!" the multicolored misfit declared.

"Well at least we can get a snack when we're kicking your tail," the young Robin said with a cocky grin, twirling his combat staff. Irritated, Queen quick-drew her holsters and shot a high-speed chocolate chip cookie at Robin, striking him right between the eyes. "Yeeouch! What the-?"

"Time for you to get your just desserts, Boy Wonder!" Queen shouted dramatically, firing off more high speed treats which Robin more successfully dodged. Batgirl moved to restrain the mad baker but was distracted somewhat by a vault door flying at her head. Leaping over the airborne hunk of metal, Batgirl landed and just barely avoided a downward punch from Orca, which slammed into the ground and annihilated the tile floor.

The fray was a volatile one; Orca swung her powerful arms left and right, destroying furniture and light fixtures and plowing through the walls in an effort to land a blow on Batgirl, while Confectionery queen dueled Robin with an array of baked goods. Managing to leap over a swipe by an oversized candy cane she was using as a staff, the young Robin rolled in close and swept her legs out from under her, her candy cane cracking in half. Stunned, she threw the broken halves at Robin as she scrambled to her feet, pulling out one last trick. "Hope you have a sweet tooth Robin!" she declared, pulling out some sort of launcher. "My treats are to DIE for!" She pulled the trigger, and Robin just barely dodged a fast-moving spherical pastry before it exploded in a shower of cake frosting behind them.

Behind them, Batgirl flipped over a desk as Orca bulldozed right through it, but a slight stumble on the landing slowed her down enough for Orca to grab her by the leg, lifting her into the air. Winding up to throw her across the foyer and right out the front door again, she was distracted by a metallic clang, and glanced over to see Robin deflecting something round and white fired by the Confection Queen, which was spinning towards her. The distraction was enough to let Batgirl slip out of Orca's grasp and jab her in the shoulder with an electric batarang.

Orca cried out in pain...and gagged as the dessert fired by her ally inexplicably plopped into her mouth. Batgirl was thrown aside as the impact sent Orca flying into the wall, the impact of that forcing her to instinctively swallow.

"Whu....what was that?" Orca demanded, already feeling the tightness of the unwelcome object sliding down her throat. Even Batgirl seemed a little concerned, but that didn't matter as she was suddenly cold-clocked by a fast-moving blueberry muffin.

"Help!" Confectionery Queen called out, dropping the launcher as Robin pulled her into a headlock. Thinking on her feet, Orca picked up the still sizzling vault door and flung it in Robin's direction, forcing him to release his prisoner and dodge out of the way. Flipping back to his feet, he was blinded by a sudden burst of lightning as the rain started pouring down, visible through the brand new hole in the wall where Orca had been. Swearing under his breath, he tossed his staff on the ground in frustration and went to help Batgirl up.

Meanwhile, two figures ducked into the nearby alley to escape the rain, panting heavily.

"That was too close..." Confectionery Queen wheezed, clutching at her chest. "I hope I didn't...sweat too much and ruin the papers in here."

"Never mind that," Orca said hurriedly. "Something landed in my mouth during that fight. What the hell were you flinging around before you hit batgirl with the muffin?"

"Oh...my weaponized cake balls! They're filled with an extremely compact mixture of sugar and frosting that explode on impact!"

Grace's eyes widened in horror. "E-explode?!?"

"Don't worry, there's not enough power behind it to blow people up or anything," Confectionery Queen explained, removing her candy cane swirl goggles to reveal a shocking set of blue eyes. "Besides, the trigger mechanism is very specific, you couldn't set it off after swallowing it like that."

She reached out to lightly slap the surface of Orca's abs to demonstrate, and a soft *click* sounded from inside her gut. Grace grasped at her stomach, expecting it to suddenly burst before she hiccuped and tasted something so sweet in her mouth that it left her light-headed, while her abs suddenly puffed out like an airbag into a heavy potbelly.

"Whooaa....huuoorp..." Orca slurred, swaying slightly on her feet as she pressed her webbed hands against her belly delicately. "Whu...what just happened...?"

"I think a roomful of cake batter and frosting just landed in your gut," Queen said guiltily, biting her lip. "You're probably about...five minutes from a huge sugar crash."

"Shhhugar?" Grace snickered, prodding at the heavy gut with a bemused look. "Shhugar.....do do do do, do do...." she started singing, "Ohhh, tch...*hic*...teehee..."

"Come on, you're holed up at the old aquarium, right?" Queen said, taking Orca by the hand and pulling her along. "Let's get you home before I have to carry you."

"Naaaah..." Orca mumbled, her vision fogging over as she started crashing. "I uh....*hic*....hmm...yummy..."
