Chapter #7

Amanda calls to check-up on Kyle

    by: Michelle Author IconMail Icon
Amanda tried to work but had a difficult time concentrating. She was concerned about her husband and called her sister around lunchtime. With fellow nosy co-workers at desks nearby, Amanda asked Lauren with a nervous whisper, "Well? How's Kyle? Is everything okay?"

Lauren seemed offended, "Of course everything is okay. When Brittany was this age I ran a successful daycare out of my house. On any given day I'd have half a dozen toddlers and a few babies to tend to. It's a breeze to only take care of one kid at a time."

"I didn't mean to challenge your ability to watch children. I just wanted to check-in and see how Kyle was doing. This has never happened before with the medallion. I'm still not sure if he is playing a game of some sort or if this is real. Did he blow his cover yet? Has he stumbled?"

Lauren giggled, "Yes. You know how much energy little girls have at that age. He's stumbled plenty of times while running around and playing. He already has a few bruises on his tiny legs."

Amanda laughed, "Interesting, but that's not what I meant. Is he still acting like a childish four year old like he was when I dropped him off?"

Lauren joked, "I wouldn't call it acting. Kylie's personality, vocabulary and charisma seems pretty genuine to me. I hate to break it to you sis...but there's nothing I've seen so far today that resembles an iota of an adult thought coming from this little girl's mind. We've done everything from playing with dolls...dancing...dress-up games...emotional crying sessions...in fact, lunch time was a bit of a struggle. Kylie wouldn't eat her sandwich until I cut all the crust off. The medallion must have a magical way of implanting memories. Kylie has been singing all the songs to Frozen by heart and mimicking the dances Anna and Elsa do. She also knew all the words to the songs in an episode of My Little Ponies that I put on earlier."

Amanda's whispers were getting louder at her desk phone, "OMG. I don't think Kyle has ever even seen the movie Frozen. I'm pretty sure he hasn't ever watched the Ponies either. I can't believe he knows all that girlish stuff now? He made you cut the crust off his sandwich? Ugh. I didn't realize it was that bad!"

Lauren laughed, "It hasn't been THAT bad. I have lots of experience handling picky little girls. Honestly, it's actually been fun to have a kid this age around again. Don't worry. I've taken tons of pictures for when Kyle returns to normal so we have some embarrassing black mail. Like I said before, Kylie has no recollection of being a man or your husband. As far as she's concerned she's always been your daughter."

Amanda's voice got even louder, "My daughter?" Co-workers around her started turning their heads. Amanda returned to a quiet whisper laughing, "That sounds so weird. I can't believe I have a daughter now."

Lauren joked, "This is totally unfair. You got an adorable little girl without having to deal with the excrutiating pain of childbirth. You didn't even have to push her out. I have scars from giving birth to Brittany and you still have have a flawless tummy."

Amanda laughed, "You know we have a medallion that could fix your scar. I owe you a shapeshifting session for taking care of my daughter today anyways."

Lauren replied, "It's been a while since you let me use it after last time when I turned myself into a....hold on sis. Your daughter is thirsty. I need to get her a sippy of milk."

Lauren set her phone down. Amanda could hear Lauren filling the sippy and overheard Kylie say in the background, "Tanks Auntie Warren."

When Lauren got back on the phone, Amanda laughed, "Did Kylie just call you Warren?"

Lauren answered, "Yea. You know little girls at that age have trouble saying L's."

Amanda replied, "When I dropped her off at your house this morning she had perfect pronunciation. This is amazing. Not only is she acting like one, but now she even sounds like a real little girl. I had no idea the medallion was so powerful."

Lauren added, "As I said before sis, there's absolutely nothing left of Kylie that resembles anything manly or adult-like. Whatever happened with the medallion this time caused your husband to completely revert into little-girl mode. For all intensive purposes Kylie thinks she's always been your daughter. I'll send you a pic of what Kylie was up to earlier. She insisted on playing dress-up with Brittany's old princess costumes."

Amanda was jealous that her sister was the one to spend the day with Kyle in his regressed state. When her phone buzzed with a new picture message, she sighed seeing how cute her husband-turned-daughter looked. https://images-wixmp-ed30a86b8c4ca887773...

Amanda would have got a kick out of seeing Kyle like this. She let out a giggle, "Do you think it would be okay if I kept him like this a bit longer? I've been at work all day and haven't gotten to see how cute he is as Kylie. I'm sure he'll be mad once he's back to normal. But another day as Kylie wouldn't hurt...right? It's Friday so I don't have to work tomorrow so I could spend some quality time with my new daughter. In fact, maybe I'll keep him like this the entire weekend? I've always wondered what it's like to have a daughter."

Lauren laughed, "I could care less how long you keep him like this. Honestly, I like him better as a little girl. Now I don't have to deal with his rude comments and jokes about my sex life. You know how he's always getting into me about the guys I date. He's always talking trash to me for not having a job anymore. Kyle can be rather demeaning when we get into our typical arguments after he's had a few beers. As a 4 year old he can't drink from the bottle anymore...unless its filled with milk that is..."

Amanda remembered, "You know what? I totally forgot Kyle's company is shutting down for three weeks. They are remodeling the entire building and gave everybody paid time off. That explains why his boss was so angry with me when I called in sick with his voice this morning. He thought Kyle was trying to squeeze extra few days off before a long vacation. Kyle has nothing to do for basically the next month. You don't think he MEANT to do this to himself do you?"

Lauren told her sister, "I don't know? But if you are going to keep your husband like this longer I need to renew my daycare license. Somebody has to watch him while you go to work during the week. I could even get a few more clients so Kylee has some friends to play with. I've been meaning to get back to work ever since Brittany started going to school. This might be the jump-start I needed to get back into the job force. I guess this could be Kyle's way of trying to motivate me to get back to work."

Amanda suggested, "If Kyle did this to himself on purpose, you would have thought he'd tell me about it. On the other hand, maybe he kept it a secret because he trusts me with the medallion. He knows I'd help turn him back to normal...eventually. Or was this a complete mistake? Did he accidentally turn himself into a little girl and regress his mind?"

Lauren replied, "Who knows? But you gotta decide what you are going to do sis. It's Friday afternoon. I'll have to load up Kylie in the car and bring her along while I go downtown and renew my license before they close. That way I'll be a legal daycare by Monday. That will give me time to get the word out that I'm open for business again and see if any other neighborhood parents want me to watch their kids...." Lauren's voice suddenly turned parental as she scolded, "KYLIE. STOP! Put those down!"

Amanda got concerned, "What does she have?" There was no response. It was obvious Lauren snapped into action and tended to Kylie. The way Lauren dropped her phone made it difficult for Amanda to hear what was going on.

After a few moments, Lauren returned to the phone conversation, "Still there sis?"

"Yes I'm here! What did Kylie have that you took from her?"

"Scissors..." Lauren replied giggling, "That was a classic little girl mistake. It seems like they all try to cut her own hair at some point growing up."

Amanda's heart sunk as she spoke loudly, "Oh no! She didn't cut it off did she? Please don't tell me my daughter's beautiful long hair is gone??!!"

Lauren joked, "Don't worry sis. I stopped Kylie before she did any damage. I really should toddler-proof my house if I'm going to running a home daycare again."

Amanda noticed heads were turning from her co-workers and whispered to her sister, "Go ahead and renew your license. I'm not sure what to do? Until I figure this out, I'm keeping Kylie around. Maybe this is what Kyle wanted? I'm going to do some thinking while I have lunch"
