During Amanda's lunch break, she headed into the cafeteria. After buying her meal she searched for an empty table for two reasons. One was so she could sit alone and contemplate what to do with her husband. The other reason was because she always sat alone The other secretaries in her company seemed to shun her out of their clique. Amanda knew it was always tough being the new girl at work. But in this case, there was a good reason for the other women to turn their shoulder. It was jealously. Many of them had worked there for years and anticipated their seniority would land them the coveted position of the CEO's secretary. Amanda was an outside hire. Thanks to the medallion she kept her body in perfect shape. It wasn't her fault she was prettier and more talented than the other applicants for the job. She knew how to work the corporate ladder when it came to impressing powerful bosses. She nailed her interview and was offered the job on the spot. She was pleased to have worn her sexiest skirt-suit to show off her legs. After working at her new secretary job for over three weeks, she was making quite the impression. The only thing that she missed was was a social life. Her female co-workers barely spoke to her unless it was business related.
Amanda sat down alone when she heard a nearby table of women say her name and invite her over. Amanda felt like the nerd in high school and was thrilled to be invited to the cool-kids table. She was planning on spending her lunch break alone and thinking about what to do with Kyle. But instead, she eagerly joined the other women.
A woman named Karen asked, "So...You never mentioned you had a daughter? She tried to cut her hair today? My little girl did the same thing a few months ago."
Amanda's first reaction was to tell Karen she must be mistaken. After all, she didn't have a daughter...a real one that was. She quickly realized Karen overheard her phone conversation earlier. Numerous times Amanda accidentally raised her voice referring to her daughter while speaking with Lauren. She knew all these other women had kids and they probably talked about them all the time. Since Amanda recently started working here she'd barely spoken with the other women in her office. All she'd gotten so far were sheepish glares and snobbish attitudes towards the newbie who stole the CEO's secretary job. There was a reason Karen didn't know anything about her. They'd never actually had a real conversation before. She'd eaten lunch alone in the cafeteria after being alienated by the 'cool' group at her office. She was glad to finally be welcomed into their conversation and went along with the accusation she had a daughter. She told Karen, "Umm...Yes! Kylie just turned 4. Luckily daycare was able to stop her before she did any damage with the scissors."
Another woman asked, "Where does Kylie go? As a working Mom you know how difficult it is to find a good daycare in this town. Is there room for more kids? I'd love to move my twin daughters somewhere respectable."
Amanda smirked, "Actually...I'm pretty sure I can hook you up. It's my sister Lauren that watches Kylie while I'm at work. She just renewed her license and is starting up home daycare again. She's looking for new clients."
A few other women barged in asking for the phone number. Amanda was pleased to finally get some attention from her co-workers. She was suddenly the most popular woman in the office. She never realized that having a child could change her social status so much. Nobody knew anything about her life because they never asked. Nobody had any clue she was even married. Since her wedding ring got chipped before she started working here, she hadn't had time to pick it up from the jewelry store. Her finger had no evidence that she was hitched. Amanda suddenly found herself eating lunch with a group of women laughing and gossiping about kids...their job...fashion...and men. She was thrilled to have joined the cool club at work and had her husband to thank for it. There were a few recent divorced women who were spilling everything about their recent dates and bragging about being able to play the field again. A woman who'd never been married before suggested they have a girls night out and be wing-women for each other. The group was laughing and sharing secrets as if Amanda had always been a part of their crew. She mostly stayed silent listening and nodding to their stories.
Eventually, a woman noticed the absence of a wedding ring and asked if Amanda was dating anyone. Before Amanda could answer, a nosy Human Resources woman interrupted, "The new girl is married. I processed Amanda's file when she was hired on."
Amanda noticed how fun the group of women seemed and didn't want the fact she was married to keep her from being invited out on girls night. She wasn't sure what she was going to do with her husband's situation. She wasn't sure if Kyle purposefully regressed himself into a little girl or not? She hadn't had the time to think this over yet. She didn't know if she was going to turn him back or not. She certainly didn't want to miss a fun night with her new friends. She decided to reply by stretching the truth, "..Actually...my husband hasn't exactly been himself recently. Given our current living situation, we aren't exactly sharing a bed anymore if you know what I mean..."
Everybody assumed their marriage had fallen apart and Amanda was on the prowl for a new man. One woman celebrated, "Yay! The new girl is available! That means we have another addition to our girls night out!"
Another woman suggested to Amanda, "Don't worry sweetie. I know tons of single guys that could keep you busy while you finalize your divorce. Who knows? Your daughter Kylie might have a new daddy soon!"
The other women offered numbers and advice to Amanda as the group chattered back and forth. Amanda was overloaded with numerous conversations going on at the same time. She suddenly realized this might be a mistake. She gave her new friends the impression that she wasn't married anymore. She wasn't even sure what to do with her husband yet? She didn't know if Kyle purposefully turned himself into a little girl or not? How long did he want to stay that way? One thing was for sure. Amanda wanted to see him as 'Kylie' and spend some time as mother/daughter. She was curious on how far regressed he was. According to Lauren, Kyle had completely reverted into the mind frame of a 4 year old. Ideas were bouncing around her mind about what to do. She was suddenly a member of the cool crowd at work and didn't want to disappoint her new friends. She was excited to go dancing and drinking with the girls and have some fun. Could she really keep her husband in his regressed state? She was curious what it was like to be a Mom and have a daughter. Kyle offered the perfect opportunity for her to find out after turning himself into Kylie. Amanda still had no idea what to do. Everything seemed to be happening so fast.
