I am he who slithers through the woods,
Nay not slither, I walk boldly, for I fear no one.
My prey is who, or whatever, I choose,
I am the ultimate hunter; fearless and hungry.
Tonight the full moon shines, and once again
Memories of long times past surface.
Scenes play across those memories.
I see a man, but is it a man?
A word floats across the air,
shimmering in the chamber, lit by the full moon.
N-e-c-r-o-m-a-n-c-e-r
The chamber is stuffy, I feel the need to flee.
But I am forced to remain, watching.
He stands over a cauldron, hands moving swiftly
My sensitive ears hear chanting.
“Beast, come to me Beast.
I command thee to come at the next full moon.
You must obey, you must come.
You are mine to command, you listen only to me.”
As if they have a life of their own, my feet begin to move.
Slowly at first, then pacing rapidly
My long strides take me in a direction I’ve never been.
It will be a long journey, for he is not close bhy
I stride off into the night.
If any villagers saw me leave,
They would breathe easier.
They shouldn’t, for I will return.
