Keeshe took out a book from his desk and told Laura that she shall stay there for the night he looked in the book and then looked at Laura with concern.
"What is that book you have there," asked Laura.
"It is a book of knowledge, what do they call you miss?"
"My name is Laura, what are you planning to do with me?" Lara was frightened she was conjuring up all kinds of things in her mind that the dwarfs might do to her.
'"Do not be frightened Laura, I want to protect you from the souls of the night."
"What is that?" asked Laura
"You do not know of the dead that wander the woods at night looking for a body to possess?" Asked Heeshe
"You mean you are not going to hurt me?" Laura sighed with relief as Heeshe smiled at her and shook his head no.
"What about Steve what are you doing to him?"
"That is a different story, men they try to still our jewels that has been our experience with them. We need our jewels in order to create our magic. you however may wear a crown of diamonds and saphires for you are worthy of such beautiful things." said Heeshe.
Heeshe went to a safe they had built in the wall of the hut and he opened it and took out a tiara made of fine jewels. You will wear this and it will protect you from the lost souls. it has been blessed by our Gods. You see the forest is cursed and you will need some protection. all of we dwarfs wear rings or pins that protect us from the creatures of the night."
"What about Steve what will protect him," she asked with tears in her eyes.
We will not let harm come to him but we can not trust these human men they have proven to us that they are not trustworthy."
"But Steve has not done anything to you, please just release us and let us go."
"If I were to do that the night creatures would possess you in no time."
Please don't hurt Steve, We need to be together won't you at least allow us to be together, he don't want your jewels I promise we will do as you ask just let us be together again." Laura pleaded with Heeshe.
Heeshe looked through his book and ignored Laura for several minutes, Laura was getting very nervous as Heeshe turned from page to page.
"What is so important in that old book?" said Laura.
Heeshe looked up at Laura and smiled I think I might allow that man to come here and house with you tonight
but if I think for one moment he is going to try something I will banish him to the forest in the dead of night and allow the souls to do with him what they will.
"Oh Thank you Heeshe, I will not forget this."
Laura was so happy that she got up and hugged Heeshe.
Heeshe summoned some dwarfs to go to the camp and bring Steve to the hut unharmed. The dwarfs did so with reluctance, they did not trust the humans.
"Heeshe,asked Laura,Why do you refer to us as humans, are you not a human yourself?"
"We are from the planet you have no knowledge of we arrived here ions ago. we multiplied over the years and we stay hidden by forests like this one. no one knows about us, we can pass for humans people just think we are little people. I have trusted you to tell you this because I feel you are special. So please do not disclose this secret to anyone."
"No Heeshe I will not, I am curiousj why you think I am so special and different?"
"Because you are different you are the only female among us all. we have never had a female in our midst before we have just read of you and seen pictures."
"Well don't you have females, you must how else would you populate your people?"
No we have no females we are magic we populate by creating the dwarfs by magic this is how we have done it every since we have been on earth. It is not that strange actually you humans can create life in a test tube so can we . We do not need a female we just use our magic.
