The next day you tried to start some friendly conversation, but Michelle quickly shut you down with one more of those unfriendly looks and a coldness on her voice that suggested you needed to do more than just buying her a starbucks to earn her favor. You felt frustrated feeling as if you had to grovel already at this point, but because Michelle kept bringing fashionable open toed shoes the temptation just wasn't going away. In fact you almost facepalmed when Kim passed by to say hello and she complimented Michelle's fashion choices, meaning other options like suggesting she used more professional footwear so you could move on from your growing obsession seemed out of the question.
Accepting defeat, you tried again next morning with the same approach, hoping that once she finally was willing to do some small talk you could find something better, be it a shared interest, something you could help her with to get close with her or who knows, maybe she would just blurt out something that you could use to blackmail her or let you access her feet directly. You really didn't care much how you made it, you just really wanted it to happen without doing something stupid that could risk your job and your new, powerful position. You arrived a bit too early though, so you just set the coffee on her desk and focused on your work while she arrived.
"What is this?" you turned your head and, with a quick peek to the floor to notice the stylish brown sandals on her exquisite feet and her flawless french pedicure, you looked at Michelle who was frowning at you, another coffee in hand.
"Hi Michelle.. Oh, sorry I just thought you would like it" you said unconvincingly and even stuttering a bit, not predicting this scenario at all
"I do, but I thought it was just a one time treat" she raised her eyebrow and gave you a funny amused expression. "Is there anything you want from me?"
"What do you mean? I just want to be nice to you" You were more prepared for that question
"Really? I've seen how you talk with everyone else here, even the people you are 'nice' with, so that must be bs. You must want something"
Her words were quickly pissing you off, what a brat! A normal woman would appreciate the gesture and act in a more friendly and warm way in consequence, yet here she was doing weird insinuations that.. weren't far off the mark, but still.
"Yes, I want you be a coworker I look forward to work with, and nothing else" You said stoically, but Michelle just chuckled
"Yeah right, try to be honest next time. Listen John, I'm not interested at all so let's get that out of the way, alright?"
"My name is James! and no, I don't want that at all, you're just 21 for crying out loud.. I just want you to not be a pain in the ass like that bitch Denise. Is there any way this can work?" You said with exasperation, but also with conviction judging by the now doubtful expression on Michelle's face. Your rant was mostly true, you weren't targeting Michelle because you wanted to have sex with her, and you definitely could do with more allies in the office now that you were in charge
"Alright James, I guess I'm sorry" Michelle raised her hands as an apology though her tone wasn't still quite friendly "If is that so, I have no problems with letting you buying me Starbucks every morning. Just be sure to add some food too, I just had a bagel with this before coming here"
You were at a loss for words, wondering how could someone be so entitled. She went from suggesting you were some harasser wanting to get into her pants to accepting you as her coffee boy in the space of minutes? You wanted to slap this girl and fire her on the spot! But for the first time you saw something that could be called progress with her when she apologized, an opening to talk with her without all these farcical arrogance. And a single look down was enough to remind you maybe this could be worth it, the experience of a lifetime in fact. And funnily enough there were other things that made you consider her proposal seriously, how she looked like a challenge, like the modern shrew that could do with some taming, and also how skillful she was. You knew if you rejected her outright she would go back to fully distrust you for the reason she stated, and everything would be more uncomfortable between you two, even to the point of being an issue to be raised with Kim.. Because she didn't really want to do anything with you, Michelle realized very quickly she could make that kind of demand with little risk, and you thought that was extremely impressive from someone so young.
"Hmpf, fine.. If that's what it takes to convince you to give me a chance" you tried to dismiss the implications of what you were agreeing, but the unconvincing tone surfaced again. For some reason your people skills were betraying you when it came to Michelle
"Good! This is a better start. Thanks for the coffee James! Now let's get to work shall we?" Michelle chirped in a noticeably happier tone, making you believe this was probably the right choice. Hopefully after a couple of days of free coffee she would just stop caring about that, or it wouldn't matter altogether because she would have let you play with her feet at that point.
