Gazing into your reflection, you saw an image of Melanie in her pink nightgown only with your soft brown eyes and a larger bust. You began to breathe unsteadily as fear flooded your mind. "How can a flu turn me into a girl?!" Panicked, you demanded. "How can anything do this?!"
"Lucy, you need to calm down." Patiently, mom said. "I won't be good for anyone if you panic."
"I'm scared, mom!" Crying, you yelled. "Please! What happened to me?!"
"It is a genetic condition that runs in your family, John." Appearing in your line of sight, Katie said. "There is a lot to it and it will take time for you to grasp it all." She paused, turning to mom. "I'm sorry I'm late; I had to explain things to Megan."
Mom nodded then turned back to you. "All of the girls in this and a few other bloodlines possess certain powerful abilities." Firmly but kindly, she explained. "Sometimes, a boy will swap genders to allow these abilities an outlet if they are strong enough."
"What abilities?" Wincing, you asked. "You're confusing me mom."
"As Dr Thompson said, there is a lot to it." Gently, Hayley said. "All of these strong colds, body aches, and headaches you had been fighting was your body slowly changing."
"We did not catch on to what was happening until it was too late, John." Serious, Katie said. "Still, even if we had caught this early, there would have been nothing we could have done to stop the change."
"Lucy... John, we will all help you adjust." Kindly, mom said. "Your uncle Jack, now Aunt Jackie went through this too." She sighed. "Only we rushed her into it and it opened a rift in the family."
"It would be easier on all of us if we take you through this one step at a time." Softly, Hayley said. She then giggled slightly before adding, "You might want to start with some new clothes; you're going to stretch out Mel's nightgown."
