The play is set in Victorian England. It is a drama similar to Howard's End and Jason's character is supposed to be the wealthy heir, George. Therefore, everyone is in business suits or fancy dresses.
But within the very first minutes of the performance, Jason's costume rips just as he steps into center stage. He is supposed to say the line, "The price of tea should be raised. That will improve the economy." This is supposed to be followed by Helen, played by Rachel, saying, "For whom. Will all of England benefit from a raise in the price of tea."
However, being a live performance, Jason cannot ignore the wardrobe malfunction. His genitals are exposed through the hole in his costume. He's supposed to ad lib if anything goes wrong to try to work the problem into the play. There is no other costume for him to change into so how is he supposed to work this out?
