Chapter #5

A reporter

    by: Whade Author IconMail Icon
A reporter stood in the door.

"Ah, good day, miss." He tipped his hat. "Are you a member of this house?"

"And what do you want?" Mouse asked scornfully.

"Ah, well, I'm a reporter from a newspaper and I'm interested in your dad's work..."

"Oh no! You came to steal Dad's book and you're going to tickle-torture me until I tell you where you can find it!"
Mouse shouted.
She threw herself to the ground, and closed one eye, but the other eye was looking up hopefully.

"Um, I wasn't planning to do anything like that."

"Oh. ...Drat." Mouse climbed back onto her feet.

"Mouse, who are you talking to?" Summer emerged from the back room and arrived to the scene.

The figure tipped his hat again.
"Oh, I'm so happy to meet you. My name is Chinnery. J. R. Chinnery. I'm from the Gazette."
Summer was staring at him suspiciously.

"Dad...Can't come to answer the door at the moment."

"Oh, I'm well aware, miss. I was informed in advance by my boss that Mr. Salt would be out of town for the weekend. I just thought I'd take this opportunity to introduce myself to his family - and to offer my help should they need an extra hand for anything. I don't mind telling you, miss, any information on Mr Salt's research is probably of great interest to our readers "

"Well" Summer said. "Maybe I'll have a better story for you soon."

"How so?"

"The truth is..." Summer lowered her voice to a whisper. "I'm not just a school girl - I'm also secretly a detective!"

"Do tell!"

"Yes, and I'm actually working on a very promising case right now. I'm sure that when I solve it, it's going to be in all the newspapers!

The gentleman bowed.
"Well, when you've got a story, Miss Salt, Chinnery will be at your service."

"Right!" Summer said, beaming with pride.

She hesitated. Chinnery seemed nice enough, but she shouldn't be too trusting with strangers.

You have the following choices:

*Pen*
1. Let Chinnery in dad's room

2. Invite him in (but do not tell him about the room)

*Pen*
3. Let him leave

*Pen* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
