OK so you are a 17 year old girl called Katie Alexandria O'Brien, you have no family left but a lot of money.

I thought I recognised her mother she used to be my personal assistant and one day she just disappeared after a one night stand.

"no, your lawyer sold everything you owned and but it into a bank account, it's standard procedure for a person with no surviving relatives and it says there for 10 years then the government claim it if no relatives are found" how much? Will the O'Brien left you with one million dollars and your estate is worth 400 million but your estate will take around eight years for you to receive it as you are a previously unknown relative".
OK contact my lawyers and hand them the information about Katie and they will do the work over the coming years.
You sit in bed thinking one million is not really loads but you think logically and say to yourself "I'll buy an apartment out right, decorate and put furniture in it and that should leave me with around four hundred thousand to play with...
