Morgana stepped out of the bag. "I dunno. He probably would have said something, though."
Ann nodded, trying to ignore the feeling that something didn't feel right. She checked her phone for a message from him but found nothing. However, she caught something that made her stomach sink.
"Crap, we've only got ten minutes left until time limit!"
"Let's get eating then. There's no time."
Akira watched on with a combination of horror, awe, and disgust as Ann shoveled relative tons of cake into her mouth. He made a mental note to never come between Ann and her sweets.
After finishing her cake, Ann looked down at the plate of food. She was still a bit hungry. And as much as she didn't want to admit it, the food looked appetizing, especially since she had already tasted all the cake the buffet had to offer.
"It looks like it's getting cold," she noted. "I'd hate for it to go to waste."
"He wouldn't mind," Morgana chirped, working on a few pieces of sushi.
"I guess you're right. He was just picking at his food anyway."
Ann placed her empty plate to the side before picking up the one containing Akira. She grabbed a fork and began digging into the food, wolfing down piles of rice.
Down below, Akira's heart raced. He never could have imagined that lunch with a friend would turn into a fight for survival. The world around him shook as Ann lifted up the plate of food. A massive fork hung high above him, threatening to come down on him at any moment.
He ran as much as he could to avoid being scooped up by the fork, pushing through heavy grains of rice in an attempt to reach the edge of the plate. A bit of morbid curiosity made him look back, which he immediately regretted as he watched Ann scoop up and eat a mountain's worth of rice.
He racked his brain. Just what exactly shrunk him? He didn't have much time to think on that as an avalanche of rice buried him. A weightless sensation washed over Akira, and he quickly figured that he was getting carried into the air. He fought his way out of the pile, yet he was rewarded with the sight of his teammate's open maw.
