Chapter #5

From Beyond the Stars

Out in the deep abyss of space, a bright emerald light shone through. It darted across the cosmos in a linear path, traveling a large fraction of light's speed, ripping through fields of debris as it passed. The source of this light was a rock, a rock no larger than a basketball, smooth and almost perfectly spherical, craters patterning its surface and expelling the beautiful green glow. The rock tore through the galaxy for quite some time, before, on its path, an orb of blue, green, and white had come before its trajectory.

As the meteorite entered the planet's atmosphere, it began to burn from its speed, mixing the beautiful emerald shine with a fiery ruby glow, which cut through the night sky of the world. It soared past clouds, light-emitting monoliths, small unlit shacks, before eventually, it touched down within a brightly-lit pool, radiating copious amounts of steam. It impacted with a loud "Splash!" and wedged itself into the bed of stone below it, dissipating its heat into the earth that lay below it. Not only did heat escape, but cracks had formed in the meteorite, and the brilliant glow of emerald had begun to disperse, fading from each crater's surface like a dying lightbulb. The waters it rested in adopted the green glow for mere moments before returning to its clear color, and after a few seconds, the scene had returned to a normalcy as if it had never happened.

The doors to the Amagi Inn's hot spring slid open so gently, and a beautiful raven-haired girl, clad in a towel entered the empty springs. This girl was Yukiko Amagi, a high schooler at Yasoinaba High and the daughter to the managers of the famous Inn, a manager in training herself. She stepped towards the hot bath before her, smiling all the way.

"Thank goodness no party booked the hot springs for tonight." Yukiko mused aloud, "I could use a nice bath after today's chaos." The manager-in-training reflected back on the day's events; a large party of a successful banking firm had booked the Inn for a quarterly closing party that was to last three days, and for the past two, it was a pure hectic mess. There were heavy drinkers, loud members, rowdy partygoers - one man had even accidentally punched through the shoji, but Yukiko had handled the party professionally and without many issues, brining a smile to her parents' faces at how much she's grown as a person through the years. Tonight was the final night of the party, and for working so hard and so dutifully, Yukiko's mother gave her access to the hot spring all by herself for a bath, a reward she much appreciated.

The young beauty let the towel fall from her body as she approached the rim of the springs, and she slid her body under the hot pool of water, hiding her nudity under a miasma of cloudy water & steam. "Ahhhhh..." Yukiko relaxed, letting out a pleasing sound as she felt her joints and muscles loosen and release their tension, felt the healing touch of the hot bath on her skin. "This feels nice, I never get tired of this..." Images flashed through her mind of all the times she was allowed to use the bath since her youth, many times she shared with her parents, many by herself, but the best of all was the time she had invited her friends to the inn almost a year ago; she still giggles heartily remembering her mistake of using up the men's bath hours, denying her male friends use of the hot springs.

Then Yukiko begun to think about her friends, remembering the good times they shared together. Yosuke, Chie, Kanji, Rise, Naoto, and Teddie; all of them were irreplaceable friends who helped her through serious hardships, in both life, and the world of the television they scoured with their Personas in search of the truth. But the one Yukiko remembers fondest was Yu Narukami, the leader of their investigation team; he was strong, kind, thoughtful, carried the team with a unyielding leadership, but the best of all was the tight bond of love the two shared between each other. Yukiko and Yu had confessed to each other last fall, and while they had tried to keep it secret from their other team members to mitigate embarrassing teasing & gossip, it eventually got out at the ski trip they shared in the February of this year, when they were trapped in a cabin during a snowstorm. While there was some needling and jokes had, everyone was quite accepting of the duo, and gave congratulations of the bond they shared - Yukiko truly had the greatest friends in the world, and she would never give the bonds they shared away.

"Oh Yu, I wonder what you're doing right now..." Yu had moved back to his home in the city once his parents had come back from their business overseas, but the two lovers didn't dull their relationship on the distance they were apart, they always made sure to keep in contact with each other regularly, and Yukiko looked forward to every visit he could manage. She remembered the times they spent together, in no particular order; their first date, Valentine's Day, going to the movies, New Year's at the shrine, Christmas in Yu's room...

"...Oh my goodness!" Yukiko darted forward from her relaxed postion. "I forgot! Christmas is coming soon!" Yukiko and Yu had made plans to be together that Christmas in Inaba, he planned to come in and stay with his uncle and cousin, Ryotaro and Nanako Dojima, and the couple would enjoy a lovely dinner with the two before exchanging presents and enjoying the snowy landscape before them; the monkey wrench in this plan was that with all the work upon her, Yukiko had forgotten to purchase a present for her boyfriend. She ruffled her long black hair and shook her head. "Argh! I'm such a bad girlfriend! I can't believe I would forget something so important!" Yukiko leaned back on the edge of the springs, back in her relaxed position, and stared at the clear, starry night sky above her. "Christmas arrives in two weeks, and Yu is coming to Inaba in a week...I should still have time by then, I just hope the stores haven't run out of anything wonderful by then..."

Yukiko closed her eyes and lowered her head, smiling once again. "Well, as long as it's for Yu, I can accomplish anything. Tomorrow, I'll ask Chie if she wants to come shopping with me, we can look for presents together, and that'll give me a good idea what to get everyone else too." Yukiko let her troubles melt around her as she relaxed in the hot springs, letting the calming waters take effect on her body. However, it was not only the calming heat that touched her form, but the leaked radiation of the meteor that had touched down just moments prior; she had no awareness, no way of knowing, but the light that had dissipated into the spring was being absorbed into Yukiko's body the more she stayed in the bath waters. Slowly, she begun to change, her body mutating under the effects of the otherworldly object...
