This choice: He missed and landed on the chair, just before Ann sat back down  •  Go Back...
Chapter #9

From Point T to Point A

(Spoilers for Ann's confidant.)

Akira made a valiant attempt to grab one of the long strands of blonde rope to save himself, but was moving too fast. Out of options, he hurtled towards Ann's chair, landing with enough force that he found himself plunged deep into the fabric. Fortunately, between Akira's much lighter weight and the plush softness of the chair, this did no harm to Akira beyond knocking him senseless.

"No, Mishima, we can't steal Chuono-sensei's heart so you can pass English," Akira muttered in an incoherent daze. "Stop asking."

"Oh, it's Shiho," the voice of a cheerful goddess rang from on high.

"Skeebo? What?" Akira shook the cobwebs out of his head and looked up, only to see Ann's enormous jean-shorts clad posterior looming above him. "Oh." A shadow engulfed Akira in darkness as said posterior suddenly moved towards him far too fast for him to react. "Oh, good."

Ann sat forcefully back down on the chair and crossed her legs, absorbed in conversation with her friend while Morgana watched curiously from the bag. "Shiho! How are you? You're getting out of rehab soon, right?"

"Actually, Ann, it was today."

"It was? Really?! I'm sorry, Shiho! I should have been there! Why didn't you tell me?"

"My parents wanted to keep it low key at the hospital itself. But we're out celebrating at a fancy restaurant right now!"

"That's great! But I don't want to keep you from spending time with your parents. Call me when you're done, we'll meet up later!"

"Ann," Shiho giggled. "Look behind you." Ann got up slightly and craned her neck to look behind the chair. There stood her best friend Shiho in the flesh, her phone in one hand and the other waving to her coquettishly.

"SHIHO!" Ann cried out. She jumped out of the chair and ran to her best girl friend to give her a big hug, accidentally giving her best guy friend the ride of a lifetime in the process.

Akira had gone from being stuck to the chair to stuck to Ann's right butt cheek as she got up slightly to see who was behind her. He made a note, once he finally got Ann's attention, to leave this part of the story out. Being on her breasts was awkward, but easily explained- it's just where he landed after he escaped being eaten. Going immediately from breasts to ass, however? That would be too big a coincidence for Ann to swallow, no matter how understanding she was.

"SHIHO!"

The wind picked up as Akira suddenly found his whole world moving very quickly. Ann was running for some reason. The motion lodged Akira free, but he held onto a loose thread on Ann's shorts for dear life- he needed to stick close to her if he had any hope of being discovered. He almost lost his grip at the whiplash when Ann suddenly stopped. She didn't move much for a few precious moments, absorbed in whatever was happening in the normal sized world. Akira took advantage of this and began to climb.

"I can't believe you're here!" Ann exclaimed, gently hugging Shiho. "This is great!"

"Right?" Shiho agreed. "I never thought I'd run into you here of all places!"

"Lady Ann," Morgana piped up. "I'll leave you to catch up with your friend and find Joker. Don't worry, I'll give him a stern talking to for abandoning a lady."

"Okay, Mona, be careful nobody sees you," Ann said absently. Morgana nodded and leaped from the bag, quickly disappearing from sight as only an expert thief could. Shiho looked at the scene with confusion.

"Ann, who are you talking to? Was that a cat?"

"Long story, tell you later," said Ann as she waved dismissively. She guided Shiho to the chairs so they could sit and resume their conversation. "Anyway, yeah, Akira-kun and I come here sometimes. It's expensive and full of snobs, but the food's REALLY good!"

"Akira-kun," Shiho said in a contemplating tone. "He's the transfer student right? The one that stood up to... him... and helped you escort me to the roof when I came back?"

"Yeah," Ann confirmed, dimming slightly when she remembered the "him" Shiho was referring to, but determined not to let it bring down the mood. "That's Akira-kun!"

"He seemed really nice," Shiho said encouragingly.

"He's not acting like it today," Ann groused, folding her arms. "Jerk just ditched me here."

"Now, Ann, I'm sure he has a good explanation..."

From his position on Ann's lap, Akira was taking a break after some frantic climbing. He looked up to see Ann looking far happier and livelier than he'd seen her in a while. Looking across from her, he found the reason: her friend Shiho was here. In spite of everything, Akira smiled. He was glad Ann was getting to see her friend. The fact that the phrase "oh, the boy with the criminal record" didn't leave Shiho's mouth once when she recalled who Akira was also moved Akira more than he would expect it to.

Ah, well, Akira thought, looking back up at Ann. Much as I hate to break up this moment, I do want to actually live today. I think the best plan is to get as close to her ears or eyes as possible. Vague plan in mind, he started to climb.
