Chapter #14

Dilemma

    by: Drez Author IconMail Icon

Ann closed her eyes and concentrated on shrinking herself. She was aware of the talk that was going on with her friends. They were having quite the discussion about what Ann's Treasure might be. Not that they were planning on stealing it: they were just speculating on what it could be.

Ryuji : So, while we're waiting Ann to shrink herself...I've been wondering what Ann's Treasure is
Futaba : Subtle, Ryuji
Ryuji : What? I was just wondering what is it. I'm not saying we should go steal it. I'm just curious as to what it is
Yusuke : If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say it's probably a fashion magazine since Ann's a model
Makoto : That'll be a safe bet
Kasumi : Hmmm....I'm also wondering how big Ann's Palace is. I mean it's a strip club. How big can it be?
Makoto : Come to think of it, none of the Palaces that we've been too has been that big
Haru : My father's Palace was big...it even included outer space
Kasumi : OUTER SPACE?! How did all of you breathe?
Futaba : It wasn't a true vacuum. It just acted like a vacuum. It got my heart pumping though
Ryuji : Why are we talking this way? Wouldn't it be better to talk aloud?
Yusuke : . We can't discus being Phantom Thieves in public.
Ryuji : I don't think these people will notice what we're talking about
Makoto : Even still, we can't be overhead discussing exploring our friend's Palace
Ryuji : Dude, you want to go to Ann's Palace?
Yusuke : I must admit I'm curious to see her Palace as well.
Futaba : We're all so blosee about entering a Palace nowadays
Ryuji : For real. I thought we were through when we made Doc's Palace collapse
Haru : Don't forget about Mementos being back. I'm willing to bet there's a barrier in Ann's Palace somewhere that is only unlockable by going into Mementos just like what happened in Maruki's Palace
Kasumi : That wouldn't surprise me
Ryuji : Why does Mementos keeps coming back?! Man, what a pain
Ann : Mementos is the cognition of the masses. It can't be erased that easily. Even if we can't physically enter it, it'll still be there in some form.
Futaba : Yeah, good point. I mean we can't go and tell people not to create an alternate dimension where their Treasures can be stolen

At this point, Ann was steadily shrinking little by little. Ann still had her eyes closed in concentration. Even with Ann concentrating, she had the mental ability to type on her phone with her mind.

Ann was around 4000 feet tall. There was a small gathering of people at her feet, taking pictures of the gigantic Ann with their phones. In the back of her mind, Ann was planning on erasing the memories of everyone who saw her as a giant. But then, would that be okay? Ann would change the minds of people without their consent or knowledge.

Ann was thinking about what to do. If she didn't erase the memories of the masses, she would no doubt be hounded by both people and the media to interview her and whatnot. Ann really couldn't hide the fact that she was now a goddess forever. That little tidbit would go out sooner or later, even if Ann was careful.

Ann was 3000 feet tall now and still shrinking.

If Ann came out as a goddess, what then? What was the next step? Start her own religion? Should she appoint someone as her...priest? Ann was conflicted on what to do. She really didn't what to change the memories of the masses to suit her whims.

Those masses are meaningless to you. You're a goddess. They're naught but insects crawling around in their short lives

Ann shook her head violently to clear it. No. People weren't insects. They weren't insignificant either.

Okay. Let's see what happens when you don't change the cognition of the masses into forgetting that they saw you towering above them all.
You wouldn't be left alone. You wouldn't have any sort of privacy. You'd be hounded into appearing on TV shows and in newspapers and magazines from around the world. You'd have no private life. You'll be asked to perform miracles and to bless their offspring around the clock.
Why settle for that when you can rule these pitiable lemmings? You set the rules. You set the terms, not them. They can't control a god.

Was the voice coming from her or from the mantle? How can the mantle be sapient? Ann couldn't ignore the voice, wherever it was coming from.

Erase their memories and it'll be easier. You can reveal yourself as a god later

Dr. Maruki hadn't revealed that he was a god. Perhaps everyone knew it at the back of their minds? Maruki had merely asked for the Phantom Thieves to accept his world as it was. He never mentioned worship or talk of a religion centered on him. If the Phantom Thieves had accepted then wouldn't it be the same?

Ann was 1000 feet tall by now.

Maruki was a fool. He refused to take full advantage of the mantle

Stop it. I'm the one in charge, not the mantle. Go away.

The voice of the mantle...or whatever it was, left just like that. Like it never happened.

Ann was 800 feet tall now and still shrinking. She had to make up her mind: would she erase everyone's memories (save for the Phantom Thieves) seeing her as a giant, or let the people remember of the godlike girl standing at the edge of Tokyo?

You have the following choices:

*Pen*
1. Ann erases the memories of the people (save for her friends)

2. Ann doesn't erase the memories of people

*Pen* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
