What the nurse failed to mention when selling your body and getting a new one free of charge it meant you were going to get the body of whoever bought yours. And 'free' involved deducting the value of their body compared to yours so the $600,000 appraisal was how much your body was worth but not the money you'd get. If you read the fine print in the contract it mentioned you would get paid up to the value of the appraisal and if someone bought your body with one that was worth more you'd only be paid $1000.
The nurse realised the mistake in communication she had made with Jake after she had removed his brain but it was too late to correct herself now. She took his brain to the storage area with the other brains and waited for his body to be sold. Some brains would wait a few weeks in the storage until their bodies were marked down until they'd only receive minimum payment or if a year passed they'd be returned to their own body.
Jake didn't have to wait as long as being a man barely turned 20 his body was highly sort after. In fact he hadn't even been there a day when someone bought him. Still it took a few hours before he could receive their body as the paperwork had to be finalized, including change of identity forms. For the buyers this had to be done before taking their new body and for the sellers it was done for them in their bodiless state.
Jake had gone into a sleep cycle and was woken when he felt hands grab his brain, he was carried out of storage before being taken back into a similar room. It isn't like before as loading a brain into a body is done by hand rather than using the machine. Slowly his senses return to him as the top of his head is reattached.
He's still dazed and disorientated as the nurse runs the checks to confirm the implantation was successful starting with shining a torch in his eye to check for a pupil response. She then pinches him and he responds with an Ow in a feminine voice. That catches his attention, he opens his eyes fully to get a sense of his new body.
