Chapter #49Megumin the Mega Sized Mage by: Ponymon Just a moment ago you had been strolling down the street without a care in the world. At this current moment you were recovering from the most intense out of body experience you have ever had. The experience wasn’t a simple lightheadedness though. You had been teleported! Or that’s what you figured happened, you certainly weren’t on a large, empty plain before. And the grass certainly hadn’t been towering around you earlier!
“What the hell! How’d I get here!?” You can’t help but shout aloud. “And why is everything so big?” You say more quietly.
Shocked and confused, you take a deep breath to calm yourself. As you breathed in, you noticed something odd about the air. It seemed clean… like super clean. You didn’t live in a place with unhealthy air, but wherever you were now had some really fresh air. Air like it had never been polluted. The idea was strangely nerve wracking.
“Just where am I? I’ve never felt air like…” Your thoughts are cut off by a sudden breeze moving past you. And then another breeze, and another. Before you could realize, a torrent of wind began blowing past you at a steady pace. “What’s wrong with the wind here?” You move your arm up to your face, trying to protect yourself from the harsh wind. The winds were starting to kick up dust and dirt that was getting blown into your eyes, causing you to flinch.
“If this is a tornado I’m going to lose my mind!”
You were hoping that whatever this wind phenomenon was would pass by quickly, but it seemed to be taking its time and getting stronger. Pretty soon the wind was blowing you in the direction it was going. You struggled against it, trying to keep your footing but it was too strong and you got carried along with it!
You can only groan as you try to secure yourself and not go flying all over the place, but you could not get any kind of footing. You could only struggle against the wind as it pulled you towards its destination. Eventually the wind got strong enough to spin you around and throw you sprawled out on the ground. “Wherever I am, the wind doesn’t like me.”
As you pick yourself up from the dirt, you notice something stranger than the wind that had just tossed you around like a sentient being. It was a giant girl who towered above you much taller than the grass did. “Ah crap, so things aren’t big here, I’m just small!”
Looking at the girl you realized that you definitely weren’t around your home anymore. Ignoring her silly looking cape and comically large wizard hat, she definitely didn’t have normal clothes on. She was wearing a red tunic with a belt wrapped diagonally wrapped around her waist. She had a regular pair of traveling boots on, one leg was covered by a stocking while the other was wrapped in bandages. And grasped between her hands was a long black staff. Her wardrobe alone made it clear that she was some kind of magic user.
The massive swirling magic circles around her also helped you realize that. “What is she doing?” You mumble staring up at the titanic girl. “Was she the one who brought me here?” You quickly shake that idea out of your head. “That doesn’t make sense, if she did, she wouldn’t be doing whatever she was doing now. Unless…” You hastily look over yourself to see if you were changing in some way. After confirming you weren’t you decided that she wasn’t the cause of your current predicament.
WIthout warning a small stone, even to you, smacked you on the back of the head and flew up towards the girl. “Okay, now I know what was up with the wind.” Apparently this girl’s spell was causing the air around her to focus on her presence, no doubt empowering her somehow. “I’m just glad I’m too heavy to be lifted any more.” You sigh, noticing some debris being flung around her magic circles. Exhausted by the revelation that you were in a completely unfamiliar place, you let your head fall to the ground and try to rest for a second.
Then the girl started talking, or chanting as far as you could tell. You half listened to what she was saying, but mostly tried to ignore it. You were too overwhelmed by your current predicament to care what her magic was. Fortunately the girl was speaking the same language as you, so that would make communicating a lot easier once you got her attention. A few of her words were especially clear. Silly things like “crimson flame”, “black fire”, “eldritch power”.
“Explooosion!” Was the last word that the girl spoke, shouting it in a dramatic manner. As soon as those words left her lips, you felt the air that had been swirling around you two get expelled. A short delay followed and was ended by a crashing boom, one so powerful that it shook the earth beneath you and made your ears ring!
Throwing yourself onto your back, you saw in the distance the aftermath of an explosion and felt the force of it wash across your body. “Holy-! That girl did that!? She’s a teenager, she shouldn’t-agh.” You clench your head in your hands and begin to scratch at your head. “This is freaking crazy! How did I get sucked into this!?”
After the effects of the explosion, you felt the earth shake beneath you again. It was much weaker this time, but you could still feel it. You wonder if the girl had noticed you, and turned to check. Turns out that your guess was wrong.
The girl who had cast that incredible spell was currently trembling at the knees and leaning on her staff for support. “Oh, that was… a good one.” She mumbled to herself before she collapsed. Fortunately, you weren’t in her way, but watching her collapse in front of you was like watching a red painted skyscraper fall in front of you. You were thankful that you hadn’t been dragged in front of her earlier, you seriously doubted you could’ve avoided her falling body.
She didn’t even have the strength to catch herself a little, she simply collapsed completely onto the ground. Her staff rolled to her side opposite of you, her hat fell off her head, and the cape she was wearing draped over her head in a comical way. Her fall kicked up a small amount of dust that you had to cough and fan away.
“What’s her deal?” You wonder, feeling a drop of confused sweat running down your face. The whole thing must really be stressing you out. Too curious about what exactly happened, you approached the head of the girl. Carefully, you lifted up the cape covering her head slightly. You didn’t want her to see you checking on her if you can help it. As luck would have it, the giantess’ head was turned towards you. Her eyes made it clear that... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
