Chapter #26
A Mother’s Warning
by: Unknown
Though your fears and unwillingness to be this giant monster’s... Toriel’s adopted child certainly had their own validity, that didn’t change the fact that you were an especially helpless case, lost in underground ruins and unlike other humans who experienced this, you somehow ended up the size of a doll. Valid concerns or not, your continued resistance was just stubbornness in this situation. At least that’s the way Toriel saw it. As you meekly tried to get her to see why you would have an issue of being taken in as her child with absolutely no say in the matter, he loving smile slowly faded. Thankfully the expression didn’t shift to anger, but rather into a stern look of disappointment. The massive goat woman didn’t wish to resort to another punishment so soon. Though this stubbornness had to stop here and now. So she decided to give you one last chance before resorting to some more direct forms of punishment.
“My poor, stubborn child.” She started, causing you to cringe a little as she referred to you as a child once more. Her tone didn’t seem happy or mad, just a tone of disappointment to match her expression. “You are lost in underground ruins, countless miles from any way back up to the surface. The only way back out has been sealed off for generations, and even if it wasn’t, the path to the exit is a long and dangerous journey filled to the brim with dangerous terrain and monsters who would be much less hospitable than I am being to you.” Her one hand gently punched you between two fingers and lowered you to the floor between her massive fuzzy feet. It seems she was trying to further nail in the whole helplessness thing. “Even if you weren’t so tiny, finding your way out of these ruins would probably be dangerous. And at your size, you’d probably be snatched up by the spiders before the monsters got a hold of you.” You shuddered once more at the thought of being surrounded by massive spiders as she kept going. “I want you to know that everything I’m doing, I do for your own care and well being, but if you continue to defy me and talk back to me, I will be forced to discipline you. I don’t like the thought of it, but it is a mother’s duty not only to raise her child, but to show them what is best for them, even if it means making difficult decisions like this.”
You picked up on the ultimatum quickly. You didn’t want to be kept around as a child. After all, you were an adult. Maybe not as old as the goat monster, but old enough that this treatment was extremely demeaning to you. You had hoped she would at least help you find a way home. But she clearly has no intention of doing that. Perhaps she really was looking out for you. Or maybe she’s making all these stories up. After all she very clearly has some sort of obsessive need to mother someone. At least her immediate decision to keep you as her child seemed to suggest that. Maybe she lied to you to make you accept this fate. Hell, maybe she’s the reason you’re so tiny. She did mention that other humans who fell down here were much bigger than you. Perhaps they were in a similar position and got away. Maybe she did this to keep you in her care. But then maybe you’re just jumping to rash conclusions. After all she did find a complete stranger in a dangerous situation and took them in to keep them safe. Perhaps you’re just being paranoid and irrational. Looking back up at her, you saw her looking down at the doll sized human between her feet, awaiting a response to her words. Will you accept life as her child? Or will you defy her once more and try to get away.
