"Hmm..." She put a finger from her free hand to her chin as she thought about what to do. Like it or not, she was holding you in place and held all the cards so all you could do was hope that she'd show mercy on you and help you out. She gave you a smile as she nodded. "Alright, I guess I can help you out little guy, i'd probably feel guilty if I just left you to fend for yourself." You breathed a sigh of relief, missing her grin turn slightly more devious as she uncurled her fingers, letting you sit on her palm. She got your attention again however when she used a finger to pin you flat on your back, into her palm.
"Just need to remind you though, don't you dare call me a little girl again. Got it?" She said, in a somewhat stern and intimidating voice, with a gulp you nodded vigorously, and she grinned. "Great!" With that she opened up a pocket on her little red dress and plopped you in. landing on your butt, you felt your surroundings shake as Veronica started walking. Trying to get a grip to even stand was tough, so you let yourself flop against the fabric of her pocket. You didn't know if it would be best to make conversation, seeing as how she seemed to have a short fuse, but she decided to talk first.
"Now then, you said magic did this to you, but can you elaborate on it more?" Her voice carried well into the pocket, but not knowing if yours would, you decided to respond slightly louder. "Well...in truth i'm a bit of a novice mage, and while I was browsing through a tomb I happened upon I uh...read a spell that I didn't recognize as anything, wondering what the effect would be. Guess I found out." You said, trying to add a bit of levity to your voice at the end.
It was then that your surroundings stopped shaking as Veronica stopped in her tracks and blinked before she started laughing. "Wow, what kind of stupid mistake is that!? You just decided 'what the hell, i'll give it a go?' not even knowing what the spell would do!? To be honest you might've gotten off easy becoming the size of a teeny little mouse. Reading an incantation without knowing the effects is a classic way for an idiot mage to get killed." She laughed, talking down to you. Your cheeks flushed red at this, feeling a bit humiliated.
"W-well I..." You stammered for a defense, but just sighed. "Yeah, I know it was dumb, but I figured it'd work out..." You mumbled, not knowing if she could hear. Turns out she could.
"Well let this be a lesson to you that things don't tend to 'work out' if you use unknown magic without proper control over it." She said, though the tone was a little softer.
Silence lingered for a few moments before you decided to ask her a question, hoping it didn't make her angry. "Well...if I may ask, you say you aren't a...little girl, but, and no offense...you look like one. What happened there ma'am?" You asked.
"Okay, you don't need to call me ma'am, Veronica is fine, and I was put under a stupid curse a long while ago, and got my magic drained in the process. The monster that did that is long since dead and gone, but this form stuck around. Got my magic back though, and I figure i'll either age back into my natural body or I might find some sort of way to fix it down the line. I'm honestly not too bothered by it." She said, fairly calm as her movement picked up again.
"Right now though, we'll see if we can figure out what's going on with your spell, and even see if it CAN be reversed." You heard her say. That almost made your heart stop. If you couldn't be fixed, you didn't know what you would do. Future prospects with spell casting would certainly more than likely be out. Your thoughts were interrupted when Veronica spoke once more.
