As you walk towards a massive research facility, you can only think of why you're there in the first place.
Your life was rather normal, if uneventful overall. While this may have been fine to any other person, it was boring to you. Craving excitement or adventure, you sought to join the peacekeeping organization Overwatch. Sadly, you didn't pass the physical exams in order to officially join the organization.
You were about to resign yourself to a lifetime of feeling unexceptional when you received a message from Overwatch. Rather than a frontline operative, you were being offered the chance to volunteer for a research project under the esteemed Doctor Angela Ziegler, also known to the world as Mercy. Alongside this offer was the promise of a job in Overwatch if you agreed to participate. With no hesitation, you accepted the offer and began prepping for your trip to the research facility where the project is located.
Walking into the high-tech building, you go through security before making your way into the testing room you were told to go to.
The room itself is rather generic, with copious amounts of Overwatch logos plastered onto every item in the room, be it on a chair or even the desk lights. Setting your stuff down, you pull out your phone and play some games to pass the time.
"Oh good. You're here," a feminine voice says from behind you suddenly.
You jump slightly and almost drop your phone in surprise. Turning around, you're met with the sight of Doctor Ziegler in a simple lab coat.
"Oh. Sorry. I didn't mean to startle you," she apologizes sheepishly.
"It's fine. I just didn't realize someone was in the room," you assure her.
"You're still taking everything in?" she questions with a soft smile.
"Yeah. It's one thing to hear about Overwatch or see it on TV. Experiencing it in person, though? That is something else entirely," you respond as you look at all of the advanced technology lining the counters.
"Well I'm glad you like it. Now, I believe you volunteered to be my test subject, correct?" the doctor asks as she looks over your file that was given to her earlier.
"I did. If I may ask, what exactly is going to be tested here?" you inquire curiously.
"One of my most important projects yet. I have discovered a way to reduce the distance between molecules in a way that avoids creating a singularity," she explains.
"So you found a way to shrink things without the possibility of accidentally making a black hole," you comment. Angela immediately smiles in response.
"I'm impressed. I usually have to explain it differently for others," she compliments. Blushing lightly from the praise, you eventually speak.
"Oh it's nothing. I just remember an old movie I watched as a kid explaining it like that. I'm guessing you have a few applications for this tech?"
"Yes. Right now, I plan on using it during rescue operations to carry multiple injured people at once out of harms way. I'm also looking into whether or not it could work in the reverse as a way of combating food shortages. Some of my friends have been hinting at other purposes, however....." the healer trails off with a frown.
"Military, I'm guessing? Just like you could carry injured civilians, someone could sneak a whole platoon of soldiers into an enemy base without them even knowing," you state as the scope of her invention becomes apparent.
"I told them that it wouldn't be used for such purposes under any circumstances. Given how often that they have been going behind my back recently, I'm unsure if that will stay the case," she murmurs in annoyance. Realizing what's happening, she quickly composes herself before continuing.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have vented to you like that. You're just here to volunteer, after all."
"No no, it's fine. I completely understand. There are plenty of weapons in the world and you don't want to add another one," you quickly reassure her.
"Exactly. At least someone understands. Anyways, I believe I should let you know how testing is going to work with this project," she says.
"I'm guessing it's going to involve me being shrunken?" you state as you make your way to a marked pad. You got the general instructions of what to do before you arrived at the station so you knew what to do.
"Yes. It'll be for the span of a month during which you'll be monitored by me. Also, we'll be testing all of your senses and body functions to ensure that the shrinking process doesn't impair any of them," she elaborates as she preps the device for activation. As the machine lets out a loud beep, she looks back towards you.
"Are you ready?" she asks as her hand hovers over a large button.
Nodding, you watch as she activates the machine. Immediately, a bright flash of light obscures your vision completely. After a few moments, your sight returns to you, allowing you to see that your surroundings have grown to a gargantuan size.
The ground beneath you shakes suddenly as the massive form of Mercy approaches you. The pad you're on begins to raise until you are at arm's length from the giant healer.
"Are you feeling okay?" she asks as she scans you over with a device.
"I feel fine. Are we going to be testing today?" you ask.
"Yes. Everything looks to be alright so there's no reason testing shouldn't proceed. I have a few ideas for tests but I'll leave it up to you. We can test your sight, durability, or something else if there's a sense that's giving you issues at the moment."
Which do you end up picking?
