Chapter #18

Shrunk by Your Dark Elf Friend

    by: Unknown
You were a nobody, just a young Breton lad, who ended up in the wrong place, at the wrong time. After being captured at the border of Skyrim, and mistaken for a civil war rebel, you escaped with the most incredible of stories; a dragon attack, interrupting your execution. Not thinking twice about it, you left the now ruined town of Helgen, and headed straight for Winterhold, to attend the mages college, which you had traveled all this way to join.

Accepted with open arms by the teachers, you soon joined a college excavation of Saarthal, along with your fellow students Onmund, J'zargo and Brelyna Maryon. While at first, the Dark Elf avoided talking to you, Brelyna quickly opened up, when she realized, you weren't going to barrage her with questions about her Dunmer ancestry. Upon returning to the college, after having discovered a strange relic, the girl helped you set up your new quarters in the Hall of Attainment, making sure you'd feel at home.

Over the course of a few weeks, through college lessons, and hanging out during downtime, you and Brelyna became good friends. Something you didn't quite expect, as, up until then, Dark Elves had always creeped you out a bit. Their grey skin, tilted red eyes, and most of all, their sharp angular faces, the cheeks and eyebrows of which, you can imagine cutting yourself on, it all added up to a bit of a creepy vibe. But Brelyna's endearing personality broke through that wall of prejudice, hitting you straight in the heart.

---

You put down the book you were reading on Deadric rituals, before walking out of your quarters, and around the glowing well, in the center of the Hall of Attainment. You peer into the open arch of Brelyna's quarters, to see her sitting on her bed, holding her grey hand above an apple, which, surprisingly to her, lights on fire. She cusses to herself, and quickly tries to prevent her entire bed from catching flames, by beaming a torrent of frostbite, out of both hands. She's clearly overdone her counter measure, as now the entire foot end of her bed, and part of the floor, is covered in icicles.

"Looks like you got a handle on things here," you say, stepping into her room, with a smirk on your face.

Brelyna drops her head back, and groans. "Oh, please, not another word, or I'll freeze you into a new room decoration."

Both of you smile at each other, as your friend climbs out of bed barefoot. She walks towards her wardrobe, and leans her back against it.

"So, what were you trying to do?" you say.

"Send it away," the dark elf says, "then bring it back. But as you can see, I couldn't even make it past the first step."

"Ah, you'll get it right soon enough, faster than I ever would, that's for sure."

Brelyna smiles. "Don't sell yourself short. I've seen you. You got a talent for magic too, you know."

"I guess if you say so."

You're about to leave, when you look back at elf. "Hey, would you like to head down to Winterhold today, just the two of us?"

"Y-Well, no. I'm working on some other stuff, and-" Brelyna pauses. "Actually, could you help me with something?"

"What something?"

"We're all trying to become better mages, right? Well, I need somebody I can practice a spell on."

You raise your eyebrow, and look at the frozen bedpost, then back to your friend.

She gives you a nervous smile. "I promise, that won't happen to you."

You sigh, and indulge her request, agreeing to become her practice dummy.

Brelyna smiles, and raises her hands. "Thanks, and don't worry, I'll make this quick."

A green beam shoots from her hands. As it hits you, you are blinded by the light. You stumble around in place, and feel like you are falling, despite your feet staying firmly on the ground, which seem to be shifting below you. As the light fades, you're a bit disoriented. You wonder if Brelyna is testing some sort of illusion spell, as everything around you has become disproportionally large. You turn around and look up, to see your fellow student hold both hands on her mouth.

"By Vivec, that's not what I was trying to do!" she says, with widened red eyes.

As your vision stabilizes, you realize you're not under an illusion spell. Whatever Brelyna tried to do, she accidentally shrunk you to a size of about two inches. She takes a few steps closer, her grey, giant bare feet slapping against the stone floor.

"I'm so sorry!" she says.

"It's ok, this is actually some pretty impressive magic," you say. "But, uhm, you can grow me back now? It's pretty scary, seeing you like this."

Brelyna sucks in her lower lip, biting it uncomfortably.

You start to panic, and stutter, "Y-You can grow me back, right?"

"I-I'm really sorry my friend, I don't even know what happened," she says. "You were supposed to fall asleep, not become trinket-sized."

"A-Are you serious?! We need to get help, maybe ask one of the-"

"No!" the elf says. "They can't know, I turned my fellow student into a bug, they would throw me out."

"So what, you're just going to keep me like this?"

The conversation is suddenly interrupted, when a third voice sounds from the Hall of Attainment. "Is everything all right here, what's that muttering about, are you talking to yourself."

Brelyna panics, and in her reflex to hide you, she raises her foot of the ground. You only have a split-second to look up at the elf's pale-grey sole, before it slams down on to of you. Your trusted friend steps on you like a common bug, not even careful about the way she does it, or how much pressure she puts on your fragile body.

"No, just thinking out loud!" The giantess says, as Mirabelle Ervine walks in on her.

Your screams are muffled under the flesh of the Brelyna's sole. You're sure you broke some bones on impact, and the longer she stands on you, the more your body gives way under the elf's foot, stuck between the cold stone floor, and the cool skin of her giant sole.

The Master Wizard looks at the student's bed and rolls her eyes. "Try not to freeze the indoors, we have enough of that cold outside," Mirabelle says, before walking away again.

Brelyna lets out a deep breath, glad she didn't get caught. She can feel some warm liquid against her sole; your blood, no doubt, which doesn't surprise her, as she really did put her foot down and squish you, like she would a bug. She starts to regret acting so rash, as she really liked you, but decides it's better this way. You're not worth getting expelled over. She raises her foot to check the damage, and to her shock, you're still alive, plastered against the bottom of her sole. Your body is half crushed, and from the looks of it, you won't last long. You look up at the guilt-ridden, red-eyed stare of the giant Dunmer girl, begging your friend to help you.

"B-Brelyna, please help, it hurts…" you say.

The elf bites her lip, looking at the broken body of her pathetically small friend, who is begging her for mercy.
