Chapter #22

Going home with Giga

    by: Pala Author IconMail Icon
The sound of low breathing filled the air as Giga stood immobile, staring at you as you paced up and down the length of her palm.

Giga, clearly deep in contemplation, prayed you decided to stay with her; she dreaded the prospect of what would happen if you left her sight.

Giga nearly trembled at the notion, but she stopped herself since she didn't want to put you at risk.

No other sound could be heard over the sound of her breathing and your footfalls on the damp, green floor underneath.

You paced up and down, unsure what to do. Giga had made a reasonable offer for you to join her or go for the Sieren empress on your own.

You look down as you reach the edge of her hand, hoping to see the water underneath you, but instead are faced with the green visage of her body.

Giga put her other palm behind the first one before you could make another move.

She really meant to protect you, but she had unintentionally closed off a viable escape path.

Though you doubt you'd go very far before she caught you, you're terrified of how she'd respond if you tried to flee.

You turned around and resumed your pacing for a few more minutes before coming to a halt and gesticulating towards Giga.

"After considerable thought, I've decided that I'd want to come and stay with you, but there are a few..."

The world went dark before you could complete your statement, and you were shoved by the green palm again by a soft, squishy item.

After a few minutes, you felt yourself being carried into the sky, then Giga's palm slid away.

However, a split second later, you felt yourself pull loose from the spongy surface and hurtle back towards the palm.

You fall back on the palm with a slight splash; the wind knocked out of you, you turn over and stare up at Giga's troubled countenance.

"I didn't want to harm you, did I? I only wanted to give you a quick kiss," Giga remarked, doing her best at her size to examine your body for damage.

"HOW DO YOU CALL THAT LITTLE?" You tried to pick up where you left off after getting up and recomposing yourself.

"We need some ground rules if I'm going to stay with you, okay? First and foremost, never do anything like that again without first consulting with me. You almost caused me to have a heart attack. Second, I want to emphasise that I am not a pet, toy, or slave. Understand that I am staying with you as a friend?"

"Absolutely," Giga murmured, her anxious expression softening into a grin. "Okay, there are two rules you must obey. First and foremost, you will do what I command, not as a slave, but for your own protection. You hide if I order you to. The last thing I want to happen is for you to leave me. Second, you must always be with me. Although you'll be under my care, most of my people dislike humans, especially after what the Techno Baron did to them."

Giga pauses for a bit to gather her thoughts before concluding.

"I fear to imagine what one of my subjects would do to you if they found you."

As the thought of being a toy for a mermaid or worse entered your thoughts, your complexion turned almost as white as snow.

You shake your head and divert your gaze to Giga. "I'll agree to your rules as long as you agree to mine. Deal?"

"Deal!" Giga exclaims, immediately bringing her free hand to you before coming to a halt and blushing at what she had just done.

"I don't believe a handshake would be appropriate in our circumstances," you responded, trying not to chuckle. "So, what are we going to do now?"

"we're waiting for this!" The crystal atop Giga's head suddenly lighted up, and before you could react, a beam of light burst from it, surrounding you in blinding brightness.

The light dissipated as fast as it appeared, leaving you with Giga's face; you opened your lips to admonish her but stopped when you felt something strange on your neck.

"Gills," Giga muttered as you looked at the weird objects on your neck. "It's for your own protection; after all, I'm a Mermaid, and we dwell underwater. You couldn't possibly exist without them; now we can go."

You knew why she did it, but you wished she had warned you ahead.

You felt the ground tremble before you could tell her as she lifted her palm and passed her face.

Before long, the palm came to a halt just before her hair.

"Get in," Giga murmured as she softly nudged her palm against her hair.

"Why am I coming in here?" you ask, gingerly grabbing some with your still-damp hair.

"It's for your own protection. For example, I require my hands to swim, yet I don't have pockets, unlike humans. And that is the ideal location for you."

You backed out onto her palm, satisfied with her answer, and asked her for another request.

"Could you please perform your magic on my garments so that they don't get damaged by the waters?"

"Sure thing," Giga replied as her gem emitted a light beam that struck your garments. Your garments dried instantly, and any water on them just came off.

You crawled into her hair and knotted yourself there, satisfied with her enchantment. "Ready," you tell her.

Giga spun around, facing the vast ocean, and took a big breath before leaping into the air and diving into the sea.

Your voyage was uneventful; neither you nor Giga took long to reach the Realm of the Mermaids.

You couldn't tell if this location was far out at sea or just Gigas's enormous size.

Other ordinary mermaids might be seen swimming around, peeking out of the hair strands.

Your heart almost stopped when you saw a mermaid holding what appeared to be a human skull; perhaps Giga was speaking the truth after all.

You question whether you should be around just one Siren or a whole kingdom of human-hating mermaids.

You withdrew back into Giga's hair as she entered what appeared to be a palace, feeling nauseated at the prospect.

You hear the faint sound closing after a few minutes before Giga stops moving and talks to you.

"We're here; you can come out now, swim out if you want?"

You took her up on her offer and swam out of her hair, taking a deep salty breath.

You just stood there immobile, soaking in your surroundings; it appeared like Giga had escorted you to her bedroom.

The gigantic room dwarfed any room you'd ever seen, much alone a structure; the bed alone could easily fit a family and yet leave space for Giga.

"Over here," Giga motioned to what looked to be a bedside table; you swam towards it in response to her instruction.

Swimming away from Giga gave you a feeling of scale; you were barely an insect to the typical human, but you were nothing compared to her.

As you sawm, you took a few moments to look about her room, where paintings of faraway lands adorned the walls, which you assumed were made of water-resistant paint.

Looking back at the bed, you wondered whether Giga would force you to sleep with her for your cause.

You see a massive Chest of Drawers with a draw ajar out of the corner of your eye; your face suddenly becomes scarlet as you notice a giant seashell drooping out of it. A seashell that was like the ones she was wearing.

You landed on the bedside table, staring up at Giga, trying to disguise that you had seen the seashell.

"Before we started working on our living arrangements, I had some of my subjects prepare some meals. So don't be concerned; it's exactly like the food you're eating on the surface," Giga said as she noticed the peculiar expression on your face.

"When and how did you find the time? I didn't even hear you say anything till we got to this room, did I?"

With her hands on her fishy hips and a tiny smug expression on her face. "Do you honestly believe this is my first day as queen?" Giga said with an eyebrow raised.

"All right, royalty, I forgot..."

The bedroom door sprang open, cutting you off. A food trolly pulled through the entryway by a regular mermaid entered the room.

The sight of the meal made your mouth drop wide; there was enough food for an entire town, much alone a single mermaid, no matter how huge she was.

You mentally tell yourself not to say anything about how much human women despise it when their weight is brought up; you worry how the Queen of the Mermaids will respond.

A scaly wall of blue obscured your view before you could speak or do anything else.

When you looked up, you were overcome with humiliation and anxiety.

You peered up at the fishy butt, and she had a lovely butt even for a mermaid.

You shook your head and glanced about for a palace to hide in, but you were the only object on the bedside table.

You observed a tiny cloth-like object on Giga's bed, which you might hide behind. But, on the other hand, Giga wouldn't know you were there, and you didn't want to end up buried beneath her gigantic form.

Making your decision, and while the mermaid was preoccupied, you made a furious rush, or swim, for the bed, knowing full well that you did not want to fall into the hands or fins of this mermaid.

You were halfway there when the ordinary mermaid decided to go, and you were right behind her.

Her tail flashed at you in a burst of blue, sending you soaring through the water; the world whirled around in a haze.

You realised you were sinking through the water due to the spinning, and you had no clue where you would land.
