This choice: Norma, Jennifer and Laura receive wishing powers. • Go Back...Chapter #5Norma, Jennifer and Laura receive wishing powers. by: Mr.Domino With it's final act as a independent force, Magic decided that bond itself to the three females present within the house. It's logic, alien as it was, was influenced by the emotional wellspring of the Veltman house, and it had determined that the female humans were far more in touch with their own emotions, less guarded like the human males were. And Magic was an emotional being, and it was the emotion that had called it into this reality to begin with. There were no doubt that some out there would, if they could see or even comprehend what Magic was that they'd call it's logic sexist, but Magic didn't care. With a flash of light not visible on this plane of existence, it sacrificed it's freedom to give Norma, Jennifer and Laura the ability to grant their own wishes. This change was not noticed by the Veltmans or Fischels, nor did they feel any different. The three women had no idea of the sheer power they now possessed.
"Here's the last of your crap, Norma." Randy said, shoving the small nylon bag into his wife's hands as he headed to help Carl. The smaller man was trying his best not to look overloaded, but one of the suitcases was already close to slipping out of the SUV and clattering to the garage's concrete floor. Eager to avoid another incident like the last time the two couples had gone on vacation ,Randy quickly grabbed the suitcase and almost effortless slid in back into the Tetris-like stack of luggage.
"Thanks Randy" carl said, wiping his expansive forehead the comb-over did little to hide.
"Yep" The larger man said, doing nothing while Norma slid between the two men and placed the small nylon bag on top of the stack.
"There, nice and tidy like a bow!" She exclaimed with a smile, glancing upwards at her husband. All she wanted was some kind of response just to show he was going to try...but her hopes were once against dashed as he simply removed her bag and shoved it in a smaller gap between the suitcases.
"You have to actually stack luggage so it doesn't roll around" Was all Randy said before closing the SUV's hatch. The four adults stood in an awkward silence for a moment before Norma spoke up again.
"Well, if we're all packed, let's go say bye to the kids and get this show on the road!" She reached for Randy's hand but he was already moving towards the driver side door.
He opened the car door and pulled himself in, "I already said mine while I was getting your crap." He said as he slammed the door shut and started the ignition, the SUV's motor loud within the small space of the garage. "Make it quick, will you? We're already running late"
"Oh...okay then..." Norma responded weakly, "Jen, Carl, you go ahead and get in, I won't be a minute". The already emotionally exhausted woman quickly left the garage and made her way through the interior of the house, looking over everything to make sure the house was in a safe, secure state. After her quick check of all the doors and the windows, she crossed into the living room, where here two children sat on the bottom step of the stairs; Laura giving her a worried look while Jonah's head was buried in his tablet.
"Well guys, guess I'm out!" Norma said, opening her arms wide and giving her children a large smile. Laura was, predictably, the first one to act. Norma's only daughter embraced her mother with a large hug.
"Mom, I hope...I just want you guys to have a great time, okay? I wish dad was more open to your ideas and so you two could..." Laura's voice was a choked whisper, raw emotion through. "Oh mom..."
"Shh, honey. It's okay. I'll make it work! I bet you won't even recognize your father when we get back!" Norma reassured her daughter, wiping a stray tear from the teenager's face before turning to face her son "Jonah, can you come say bye to mom?"
"Okay" Jonah said and he paused his game and scampered over to his mother, giving her a huge hug around her waist. The boy was a little sad, but all the promises his sister had made him had him more excited and almost eager for his mom to leave. Norma bent down and returned the hug, giving him a large kiss the cheek. "I call you later before bed, okay?"
"Okay mom" The boy said, wiggling out of the hug and pulling the tablet back up to his face. Norma turned to face Laura once more.
"Well, I guess I'm off, then. Remember, emergency numbers are-" She started, but was silenced as Laura finished her sentence.
"On the fridge, leftovers in the fridge, pizza money on your dresser, no boys and bed by 8 and eleven. I got his, mom" Laura said with smirk, "Now go...just have fun okay? Even if he doesn't want you to"
The fact that her daughter knew so much about the failures of the marriage made Norma's heartbreak, but she put on a brave face, gave one final hug, and left the house. A few moments later there was just the slow, loud roar of the garage door closing and the rev of an engine.
The vacation had finally begun. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
